England’s top flight never sleeps, and with the 2026/27 Premier League season just weeks away from kick-off, attention is turning to who might crash the party at the top end of the table.

Arsenal are champions after a strong 2025/26, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool securing Champions League spots. Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brighton grabbed the lower European places.

That leaves a cluster of established Premier League teams who finished in the middle of the pack last season but have the squad depth, manager quality or financial muscle to push for a top-seven or top-eight finish – and with it, a shot at Champions League, Europa League or Conference League football. Here are the main contenders.

Newcastle United

After a disappointing 2025/26 that saw them slip out of Europe, Newcastle are widely tipped for a bounce-back. With Saudi-backed investment still providing serious spending power and a solid core of players, Eddie Howe’s side have the tools to challenge again.

BetGoodwin casino and others in the betting markets have them as strong contenders for a top-six or top-eight push, and early previews suggest they could reclaim a European spot if they avoid injury issues and integrate any new signings smoothly.

Their home form at St James’ Park remains a major weapon, and if they can string together consistency away from home, they’ll be right in the mix.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs have had a rough couple of seasons, but the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi towards the end of last season and a squad full of talent mean they cannot be ignored.

They have the attacking firepower to score goals in bunches, and if they tighten up defensively, a return to European competition is realistic.

The big question is squad harmony and whether they can handle the midweek demands if they do qualify – something that has tripped them up before.

Chelsea

Under new manager Xabi Alonso, Chelsea enter the 2026/27 Premier League season with renewed optimism after a mid-table finish last time out.

Their young, high-potential squad has been bolstered over recent windows, and without European distractions this season, they could focus on domestic improvement.

Many bookmakers see them as one of the stronger mid-table bets to climb into the European places.

Consistency amid managerial changes has been their Achilles’ heel, but a settled system could see them challenge seriously.

Other 2026/27 Premier League Teams in the Conversation

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton have become serial overachievers under their recruitment model. They secured Conference League football last season and have the know-how to push higher.

With smart signings and a manager who gets the best out of the squad, they are often in the conversation for upsetting the bigger clubs.

Their style of play can trouble anyone on their day, making them dangerous contenders for another European tilt.

Brentford and Crystal Palace

Brentford continue to punch above their weight with an organised, high-energy approach that has kept them competitive.

Crystal Palace, under their established set-up, are seen as safe mid-table but capable of a surge if key players stay fit and they add quality in key areas.

Both sides have shown they can pick up results against top teams and grind out points – the hallmarks of sides that can sneak into the European mix in a tight race.

Ones To Watch

Fulham and Everton have shown flashes of competitiveness and could be dark horses if everything aligns.

Newly promoted or recently struggling sides like Nottingham Forest or Leeds are less likely to feature prominently in European battles right away.

What Could Decide the Race?

The Premier League’s European qualification spots are fluid, especially with strong English performances in continental competitions potentially shifting the allocations.

With up to eight or nine Premier League teams potentially in Europe next season, the battle for sixth to eighth (or lower) will be fierce.

Key factors will include summer transfer business, injury luck, fixture congestion, and managerial stability.

Teams that avoid the dreaded “European hangover” – or embrace it positively – could gain an edge in the 2026/27 Premier League race for European football.
