A wonderful Jude Bellingham brace paved the way for an English win in the England vs Mexico World Cup round of 16 match at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Sunday, July 5.

The Jude Bellingham brace gave England a 2-0 lead in the England vs Mexico match in the first half itself. England won the match 3-2 despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men.

Jude Bellingham Brace Showed His Impact as a Player

Bellingham has scored four goals in World Cup 2026 so far.

His first goal in the England vs Mexico match came from a counter-attack at a time when England had been fighting hard to keep Mexico at bay. His second goal was a result of a robust high-press that has come to signify the English game largely under Thomas Tuchel. Bellingham then came up with a pivotal interception to deny Mexico their second goal of the match.

It was not a match in which Bellingham could dictate terms as a No.10, but one that required him to aid his team in its battle for survival in front of a partisan Mexican crowd. Additionally, there was a need to make every chance count, which the Real Madrid midfielder did so superbly.

The Jude Bellingham brace yet again proved his status as England’s undisputed big-match player alongside their captain Harry Kane. Bellingham spent the last 15 minutes of the match as a false nine after Kane was replaced by Morgan Rogers in Tuchel’s bid to throw fresh legs in to hold on to a one-goal advantage.

Bellingham had earlier scored England’s opening goal against Panama to break the deadlock as well. The 23-year-old hold has had an immense contribution in the Three Lions’ campaign so far. He now has 10 international goals in 53 appearances for his nation.

England Will Face Norway in the Quarterfinals

England will take on Norway, the slayers of Brazil, in the quarterfinals. If Mexico posed a threat by attacking as a unit, Norway will do so simply by having the redoubtable Erling Haaland upfront, who has scored seven goals in only four matches in the tournament so far.

England’s defence will need to be on guard against Norway as a result, as they will like to learn their lessons from Brazil’s defeat. However, in order to score goals, they will once again rely on Bellingham and Kane, their two genuine world-class players.

Bellingham’s robust as well as mobile presence has been one of England’s plus points in this tournament. He has proved to be great with his surging forward runs into the opposition penalty box, repeatedly reaching in time to connect with crosses. The opposition defenders will be as wary of him as they will be of Kane in England’s upcoming matches.

Bellingham’s emergence as a proper attacking midfielder could not have come at a better time for England. If the Three Lions are to win their first major title since 1966, Bellingham will have to continue his form for three more matches, which seems very likely at the moment.
