As Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea in a pre-season friendly in Sydney, Roberto De Zerbi has been showered with praise for his success in preventing the London club from relegation down to the second tier. In fact, more praise stems from the fact that Roberto De Zerbi’s signings signal a complete transformation at Tottenham Hotspur in terms of player transfers.

Two of the best signings are believed to be Sandro Tonali and Marcos Senesi. De Zerbi explains that he made first contact with Tonali right after Spurs’ final match in the Premier League. This saw Tonali become one of Roberto De Zerbi’s signings for a fee of £92.5 million with £7.5 million in add-ons.

To add to his tally of midfielders, Spurs signed Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for a fee of £85 million, and to the surprise of Tottenham fans, De Zerbi isn’t done yet. Reports say that the ex-Marseille coach is a huge fan of Antonio Nusa, who was pivotal in Norway’s FIFA 2026 World Cup fixtures. However, AS Roma are believed to also have an interest in the player, although Spurs assume a better standing in landing the player’s signature as one of Roberto De Zerbi’s Signings.

Ahead of a potential second stint at the club, De Zerbi is also gearing towards having Lucas Moura back at the club to spice up his attacking options. Also on the shortlist to become one of Roberto De Zerbi’s signings happens to be Georges Mikautadze from Villarreal. This doesn’t come as a surprise target, as the attacker netted 13 goals and provided six assists last season in just 32 appearances.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Signings: The Italian’s Stern Character May Be Key To Attracting More Signings

Right from his coaching days at Brighton & Hove Albion, De Zerbi has exhibited a stern yet warm character, and this may have possibly garnered the admiration of some of his recent signings. For instance, Roberto De Zerbi refers to Mykhailo Mudryk as his son and a lovely guy, even though the player was alleged to have tested positive for doping.

Also, in the bid to rescue Tottenham Hotspur from relegation, De Zerbi once held a get-together meal at Bacchanalia Restaurant with the players. Although the price of a meal is valued at £130, the Italian manager intended to facilitate bonding and team spirit.

Although De Zerbi has some heartwarming attributes, he’s not far from delivering an extremely mean attitude. According to Alasdair Gold, when Spurs were on the brink of relegation, De Zerbi informed his players that they could not leave the club if they got relegated. In fact, De Zerbi confirms he told Jan Paul Van Hecke to “f*ck off” after he provided an assist for Georginio Rutter against Tottenham whilst the defender was still a Brighton player, as Spurs were still trying to survive the relegation battle.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Signings: The Present And Future Plans

Roberto De Zerbi’s signings include both present and future plans for the team. The Spurs manager said:

“We are starting with a plan of five seasons, five years, maybe two, maybe two months, maybe two days, because in football you never know. But at the beginning we are building the plan for five seasons, and I think if you spend big money for one old player, it’s not the right solution. So if I ask, if my request is not right for the policy of the club, I can’t ask, but I have to understand before I ask the club, no?”

He further added:

“Or, OK, we are spending money, but we are spending money for the plan, for the project. In this part of the history of football, they have to be good on the pitch, but they have to understand the financial part.”

Even till the end, De Zerbi stood and ensured Spurs survived relegation. He aims to and is instantly transforming the psychology of Tottenham Hotspur, their fans and team players. With Roberto De Zerbi’s signings, there’s a huge chance of having Spurs challenge for silverware next season.
