As Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea in a pre-season friendly in Sydney, Roberto De Zerbi has been showered with praise for his success in preventing the London club from relegation down to the second tier. “We are starting with a plan of five seasons, five years, maybe two, maybe two months, maybe two days, because in football you never know. But at the beginning we are building the plan for five seasons, and I think if you spend big money for one old player, it’s not the right solution. So if I ask, if my request is not right for the policy of the club, I can’t ask, but I have to understand before I ask the club, no?”
He further added:
“Or, OK, we are spending money, but we are spending money for the plan, for the project. In this part of the history of football, they have to be good on the pitch, but they have to understand the financial part.”
