Antonio Conte might become the next Manchester United manager if the club’s poor run under Michael Carrick continues. Manchester United have lost three of their six matches across all competitions this season so far, including a recent loss to Man City, and the musical chairs for the post of next Manchester United manager might continue.

Michael Carrick is visibly under some pressure. He did a good job as the interim manager, but then the pressure was less on him, and United mostly played a game every week. Now, he is having to deal with the pressure of playing multiple competitions, and the expectations are high for him as the permanent manager.

Why Antonio Conte Has the Credentials To Be the Next Manchester United Manager

Conte won three Serie A titles as a player with Juventus in a career spanning over a decade. However, more importantly, as a manager, he has won six domestic league titles, including five Serie A and a Premier League title.

The 57-year-old Italian is considered one of the best managers in the world for domestic league competitions, and he has won the titles with four different clubs. What is even more important is that he is known to be a hard task master and commands respect from his players from the very outset.

Conte’s success with various clubs like Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Chelsea will almost compel the Manchester United players and supporters to hold him in high regard if he is appointed as the next Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils need a strong external influence to get things back on track again. There still seems to be a lot of reverberation of the hugely successful Sir Alex Ferguson era at the club, with a number of managers getting appointed from among the club’s former players who played under Sir Alex.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ryan Giggs and now Michael Carrick are Ferguson’s wards who have assumed the responsibility of the Manchester United manager in the past. The likes of Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand, again some of Ferguson’s former pupils who are now part of the media, seem to hold influential voices with regard to the functioning of the club still now.

The bottom line is that all those influences are not doing the trick for the Red Devils any longer. Hence, they need an authoritarian manager who will be able to dictate terms with his set of philosophies and thus drive the club towards success.

Maybe the fresh ideas and approach of Conte as the next Manchester United manager are what the club needs at the moment.

Extra Time Notes

Some people might argue that Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal were proven managers as well, but failed to do much to revive Man United’s fortunes. But it has to be remembered in this context that both Mourinho and Van Gaal were past their primes as managers at the time of their appointment by Manchester United.

A great achiever like Zinedine Zidane was not engaged with any team for more than two years, but Man United did not feel the need to pursue him seriously.

Conte has won the Serie A title recently with Napoli and has a history of inculcating some solid discipline into the club he takes charge of. Hence, he might be able to turn the tide as the next Manchester United manager. Having Conte as the next Manchester United manager might be a step in the right direction after a long while.
