Manchester United’s 2026/27 season promises a lot for their supporters all over the world.
The Red Devils, who are arguably the most popular club in the world, have not won the Premier League title since 2013. They have not even come close to winning the UEFA Champions League since losing to Barcelona in the final in 2011.
In fact, Manchester United qualifying for the Champions League is deemed a success these days. Michael Carrick achieved that objective with his team last season after taking charge in January.
In such a scenario, Manchester United’s 2026/27 season promises a lot to their supporters and could prove to be the beginning of a new era.
Manchester United’s 2026/27 Season Holds a lot of Promise
Man United have signed two players in the current transfer window so far: Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
Both are holding midfielders, with the former providing some assurance and a touch of Brazilian class on the ball, and the latter being good with his ability to shoot and cross. Both should prove to be good additions in Manchester United’s 2026/27 season, even though a lot of supporters would have preferred to see Elliot Anderson, who chose Manchester City over United.
The Red Devils did some nice business last season as well, bringing in players like Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha. Each of those three played their part in Manchester United finishing in third position in the Premier League.
In addition to that, Manchester United’s 2026/27 season should be bolstered by the fact that Marcus Rashford is back at the club from his loan stint at Barcelona, which saw him score 14 goals last season.
The Red Devils’ defence is not the strongest in England, but Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez form the core of a very strong one. Senne Lammens was another solid addition to the Red Devils’ squad last season and delivered a few wonderful performances to give the club some much-needed assurance in goal.
However, the challenge for Carrick will be to get his starting XI right and also rotate his players well enough to deal with the pressure of playing in multiple competitions. The youngsters like Kobbie Mainoo, Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher need to be utilised judiciously, but should be given adequate exposure at the same time.
Still, in spite of the presence of the above players, Bruno Fernandes remains Manchester United’s best player. Fernandes has more than 100 goals and more than 100 assists in his 327 matches for United, making him one of the most productive playmakers in the history of the club.
One could argue that whether Man United will challenge for the title will rely on Fernandes’ ability to continue his excellence. Even with Fernandes not producing the kind of form that helped him win the PFA Player of the Year last season, Man United might still finish among the top four.
However, if Carrick’s men are to win the title in Manchester United’s 2026/27 season, Fernandes will have to rise to the occasion and have an above-average season.
Only time will tell how Manchester United’s 2026/27 season in the Premier League turns out to be. The Champions League will also be an additional challenge, but Carrick can be allowed to focus solely on winning the Premier League first.
As of now, Arsenal and Manchester City are above the others, but Man United should be the club leading the rest of the pack. It is definitely not beyond Carrick’s reach to do what Mikel Arteta did at Arsenal after a wait of six years.
