Bayern Munich’s Canadian international Alphonso Davies injury record continues to hamper his career, as the left-back suffered a muscular tear during his team’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Not only does that mean that he will miss the rest of the season, including the DFB Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart, but, much more devastatingly for Davies, it puts his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, partially on home soil, in serious jeopardy.
The Alphonso Davies injury puts him and Bayern in a difficult situation, having to decide whether he should focus on receiving proper treatment for his muscle issue, and thus miss the World Cup, or join his national team for the tournament and risk aggravating the injury.
Alphonso Davies Injury: A 2025/26 Season To Forget For The Bayern Left-Back
The latest Alphonso Davies injury is sadly only the most recent chapter in a saga of ailments for the 25-year-old Canadian national team captain.
This term, he has already recovered from an ACL tear sustained in March 2025, while on international duty. After that, he dealt with an illness, a torn muscle fibre, and later a hamstring strain before the current injury.
Overall, Davies has only made a total of 23 appearances for his club this season and none for his national team, pausing his progress as a player.

Alphonso Davies Injury: The Club vs Country Dilemma
The relationship between Bayern and the Canadian FA has been strained by the fact that Davies tore his ACL in a CONCACAF Nations League third-place match, a game the Bavarians feel he should have been rested in.
However, whatever the case may be, players love representing their national sides, and the Canada captain wouldn’t have wanted to miss that game.
That is especially true for Davies, who had been taken in by Canada from a refugee camp as a child, and he feels he has a lot to give back to the country where he grew up.
The crux of the story about the current Alphonso Davies injury is different, though.
Technically, he would require a six-week rehab to fully recover, but in Canada, there has been talk of him needing a somewhat shorter break, which would be in time for him to play in the World Cup.
As noted above, that would carry a great risk of worsening the injury in the long term. That said, a World Cup on home soil is a once-in-a-career event for the lucky few, especially if one has the chance to lead out one’s national team as captain.
Of course, a club has a responsibility to its own success and to the health and careers of their players, but Bayern should also understand what a tournament like this means to their player. He has been through so much lately and only deserves the best.
That is why the decision about how to proceed is such a delicate one after the latest Alphonso Davies injury, for all parties involved.
Canada take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12 in their opening game; this leaves only a short window in which to decide what to do. One can only hope for the best for the Canada captain after this latest Alphonso Davies injury.
