Arsenal’s Title Hopes: The Gunners’ Lead Cut Down To Four Points As Title Battle Takes Another Turn

Arsenal’s title hopes got dented further as they drew with Brentford 1-1 away. The Gunners now have 57 points in 26 matches, while Manchester City are now hot on their trail, only four points behind.

Arsenal’s title hopes are still fairly strong, but Mikel Arteta will know from experience that Manchester City have the ability to upset their plans at any time in the final third of the season.

Arsenal’s Title Hopes: Dropped Points In The Last Five Games

Arsenal’s title hopes have suffered a blow in their last five matches, as the Gunners have dropped seven points from those matches.

In comparison, Manchester City have dropped five points from their last five matches and look in slightly better form than Arsenal.

It is all about fine margins now, and even an undesirable result or two could throw Arsenal’s title hopes off track.

They have not won the Premier League title in over 20 years, and hence, there will be a lot of pressure on the North Londoners to win the title.

With every match that finishes without a win for the Gunners, they will feel that they have done Pep Guardiola’s men a huge favour.

Manchester City have frequently won the league title during the last decade or so by performing exceptionally in the second half of the season, so they will fancy their chances of doing it once more.

Arsenal’s Title Hopes: An Attack Without A Real Goalscoring Presence

The Gunners have Viktor Gyokeres as their highest goal-scorer with 13 goals in 32 matches in all competitions this season.

Looking at Arsenal’s other attackers, Gabriel Martinelli has scored 10 goals, Bukayo Saka has scored seven goals, and Noni Madueke has added five goals.

Most of the Gunners’ attacking players have played their part for the team so far, but there has been a distinct lack of a real goalscorer in the side.

The last three months of the season are going to be critical in this regard. Arteta will hope that Gyokeres will touch 20 goals this season, which will significantly help the Gunners in their title pursuit as well.

The same goes for Saka and Martinelli, who should both try to reach the 15-goal milestone for the current season. Reaching the individual milestones will help the Gunners reach their target as a collective unit.

Arsenal’s Title Hopes: A Serious Few Weeks Lie Ahead

The Gunners will take on Wigan Athletic in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup this weekend, and thereafter, they will take on Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in their next two Premier League matches, which will go a long way towards determining the fate of their season.

It has to be remembered in this context that Champions League football will reach an intense phase as well in the next few months.

The Gunners have never won a major European trophy, and hence, the pressure will be on them to get that record straight as well.

The greatest of the sides manage to cope with the pressure of expectations and playing in multiple competitions.

With the kind of squad Arsenal have, there is simply no excuse for coming up short in terms of coping with that pressure, as they have to simply thrive off of it and get the job done.
