Bayern Munich Contracts Update: Positive News For Serge Gnabry As Sacha Boey Is Loaned Out

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Bayern Munich have several players whose contracts are expiring, either this summer or soon after.

In three of those cases (two of the ones expiring this year), we now have clarity as we are able to bring you our Bayern Munich contracts update.

Bayern Munich Contracts Update: Serge Gnabry Extends His Bayern Stay Until 2028

The first and most positive story in this Bayern Munich contracts update is that Gnabry has signed a two-year contract extension with the Bavarians.

The versatile attacker, who has been with the club since 2018, has won six Bundesliga titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and one FIFA Club World Cup, amongst other honours.

He knows what the club are about and has internalised what is known in Germany as “the Bayern gene’’.

“The Bayern gene” is the desire to win every game and every trophy the Bavarians are playing for. No matter whether it is a Champions League final against a fellow continental giant or a friendly against a local amateur side, Bayern are always driven to win.

In all the years in Munich, he knows what it takes to be successful, and it makes sense for all parties involved to go into the immediate future together.

While it certainly has to be said that Gnabry has not always been the first choice, even while Jamal Musiala was injured, he has usually delivered when Bayern boss Vincent Kompany put his trust in him and is a major positive in the Bayern Munich contracts update

Sacha Boey Loaned Out To Galatasaray With Option To Buy

Another piece of news for this Bayern Munich contracts update was also announced by the club on Thursday, February 5, which is that Boey will be loaned back out to his former side, Galatasaray, for the rest of the season.

He does possess a Bayern contract until the summer of 2028, but he has become surplus to requirements under Kompany, as the Frenchman has only been a last-resort right back for much of his time in the Bavarian capital.

When he arrived from Turkey in January 2024, there was a very serious problem with depth in the backline, so he was a welcome reinforcement at the time.

However, since then, he has made only 38 appearances, winning one Bundesliga title and a German Super Cup in his two years at the Bavarians.

Boey was still able to make the move because the winter transfer window in Turkey remains open, while it has been shut in the Bundesliga since Monday, February 2.

Leon Goretzka Stays With Bayern For The Season

Despite having a contract with the Bavarians that he has long known would not be extended, and despite several Spanish clubs being interested in a January move for him, Goretzka has decided to stay at Bayern for the rest of the season and the remainder of his contract.

With the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, and eventually also Tom Bischof ahead of him in the Bavarian midfield hierarchy, it would make little sense to extend Goretzka’s contract.

However, keeping him for the remainder of his contract is also a good option. This particular piece of news in the Bayern Munich contracts update is slightly older than the others, but it is still important to include.

Apart from that, there were also multiple reports from early on this week that suggested that the Dayot Upamecano extension saga has come to a positive conclusion and that the French centre-back would sign a new contract soon.

The club have not confirmed this at the writing of this Bayern Munich contracts update.
