Bayern Munich stretched their winning run against Barcelona to 5 games after a hard-fought victory at the Allianz Arena. The win was vital as before the match Bayern were behind Barcelona on goal difference. It was certainly a delightful day for the Bayern fans as they got to witness their team hold their own against the Catalans.
How It Went Down
Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane scored within minutes of each other in the second half. Despite the result, Barcelona still have every chance of getting out of the group after Inter lost to Bayern on the first matchday. It was a frustrating night for the former Bayern Munich Star man, Robert Lewandowski due to missed chances.
Bayern Munich’s Mixed First Half
On the eighth minute Pedri shot straight at Manuel Neuer’s feet. Pedri would feel he could have done better as he was inside the box when he took on the shot. Moments later Gavi fed Lewandowski who poked his shot over the bar from inside the box.
On the 26th minute, Lewandowski laid of a shot for Raphinha which drifted wide of the post. Bayern had their first chance of the game on the 30th minute when Sabitzer’s shot went wide of the post. Leroy Sane found Sabitzer before he had the shot. Just before half time, Jamal Musiala worked an opening on the by line before putting in a cross. The cross fell to Thomas Muller who could not quite get a shot of as Sadio Mane was in his way.
Bayern Munich Up The Gear In The Second Half
Leon Goretzka shot was pushed away by Marc Andre Ter Stegen four minutes into the second half. A minute later Joshua Kimmich’s corner was headed home by Lucas Hernandez. The defending from Barcelona was not good as nobody followed the unmarked Hernandez.
On the 53rd minute Leroy Sane doubled Bayern Munich’s lead. Leroy Sane poked it pass the onrushing Ter Stegen with his weaker foot when through on goal. In the build up, Jamal Musiala did well to take a player out of the game before passing it to Sane.
Moments later Jamal Musiala’s shot drifted wide of the post. Before he had the shot he went on a good run after Pedri was dispossessed. On the 62nd minute, Pedri combined well with Lewandowski who dinked Manuel Neuer. Unfortunately for Lewandowski after dinking Neuer his shot hit the post. Just before added time, on the 90th minute, Ansu Fati had a curler at the edge of the box which went over the bar.

Bayern Munich now leapfrog Barcelona and go top of Group C. Barcelona are second on goal difference after their comprehensive win against Victoria Plzen on matchday 1. The double header between Barcelona and Inter is even bigger now after the Bayern result.
