Chelsea arrives to the final day of the season with several possibilities still open. If they manage to beat Bournemouth and Tottenham losses against Sheffield United, they would gain fifth together and a guaranteed Europa League spot. A draw would be enough to secure sixth over Newcastle and Manchester United for a ticket to the Conference League – though that could become a Europa League berth should Manchester City win the FA Cup. A defeat can see them drop down to seventh if Newcastle beat Brentford. Seventh could become the Conference League spot if City prevails at Wembley the following weekend.
The Blues’ last game was a 2-1 win against Brighton in a game that seemed to be set for a comfortable 2-0 win. However, it ended with Reece James receiving an irresponsible red card for violent conduct. Undoubtedly, Mauricio Pochettino’s side has been the best in the final run among the contenders for the last European spots. After the 5-0 defeat against Arsenal, they have achieved 13 out of 15 possible points, giving them the advantage on the final day.
Competing in European football next season is crucial for Chelsea. Since Todd Boehly’s acquisition of the club, it has been clear the results are noticeably off the mark also considering the huge investment in transfers in this short period. The Europa League or Conference League is still not enough for a club like Chelsea, but it can be a good place to start with this young squad and at least bring some type of a financial breather.
Bournemouth has without a doubt been one of the most positive surprises of the season. The appointment of Spanish manager Andoni Iraola has proven to be a huge success. The team has taken a big step forward from last season and could finish in the top 10 for the first time since the 2016/17 season with Eddie Howe as manager.

Chelsea win at 1.44
Chelsea has overcome what could have been a second consecutive season outside the top 10. Mauricio Pochettino’s hand has undoubtedly started to show with the team suffering just one defeat in their last 14 Premier League games, collecting eight wins and five draws.
Now they are just one step away from European football, and although Bournemouth has had a great season, they should not cause them much trouble after everything they went through.
