Could Alexander Isak Make the Switch From Newcastle to Liverpool?

Alexander Isak turned 25 last year, a time when a footballer enters his prime as a player.

The same could easily be said about Isak, as he is probably the greatest striker in the Premier League now, even keeping the redoubtable Erling Haaland in mind. Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 matches in his three seasons with Newcastle United.

However, everything is probably not going well with Isak at his current club. It is quite obvious that a number of clubs, including English champions Liverpool, are interested in getting Isak. However, Newcastle are not willing to let him leave.

Is Alexander Isak Headed to Newcastle?

The Magpies won their first trophy in more than 70 years last season. It was also the first title for Isak as a player.

As the Swede played for Real Sociedad prior to coming to Newcastle, he never had a real chance of winning a trophy there either. Real Sociedad are nowhere near the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in terms of clout and achievements.

However, as Isak tasted his first success in terms of winning a title last season, he must be eager to get more.

As good a team as Newcastle are at the moment, they cannot be expected to be in a position to win a trophy every season. They will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, but they cannot realistically be expected to win the tournament.

However, the case for a team like Liverpool is different. The Reds have had a great transfer window so far, which could still get better if they manage to acquire Alexander Isak.

In fact, should they be able to get Isak, Liverpool will be the odds-on favourite to win multiple titles next season. Hence, Isak is certainly justified if he harbours the ambition of going to Liverpool this summer.

Alexander Isak Will Cost a Fortune for Any Club That Wants To Sign Him

However, getting Isak will not be easy even if Newcastle are ready to allow him to leave.

The transfer fee for the Swedish striker will probably exceed £150 million, which is not a very affordable amount for most clubs. Liverpool have already broken the bank to sign Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike at a combined price of almost £200 million.

Hence, it remains to be seen whether they are in a position to go for the Swede by paying such an astronomical amount. As of now, it seems that the Reds are quite willing to go for Isak even if it means paying a huge amount.

However, more than that, Isak’s willingness to join a bigger club is something that should be the key issue in this regard. He has probably outgrown his current club already, and it is certainly not the first time that a player has exhibited great ambition.

Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, must be ruing as well as celebrating the fact that they won the EFL Cup last season.

Had they not won the title, Isak probably would not be so desperate to move to a bigger club. However, now that he has tasted success, he probably cannot be stopped.
