In the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, we see an all-Spanish tie as FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid is set to be a gargantuan clash between two huge clubs in Spain, setting their sights on the semi-finals.
This clash was already settled in La Liga as recently as the weekend just gone, as Barcelona ran out 2-1 victors, but the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals poses as a completely different task for both sides.
The Catalan giants are seven points clear in the La Liga title race, and after their 8-3 aggregate hammering of Newcastle United in the Round of 16, they look to be on a good course to reach the latter stages.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid hammered Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 in the first leg, but the Spurs beat Atleti in the second leg, with the Spanish side progressing 7-5 on aggregate.
With both of the Spanish sides weathering the English storms, an all-La Liga tie will definitely bring a lot of excitement for fans around the world.
FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid: Barca With The Home Advantage For The First Leg
Home advantage plays a huge role in the UEFA Champions League, as both of these sides found out in their Round of 16 ties.
Both teams struggled when it came to their games in England, but they blew their opponents away when it came to playing in Spain.
However, with that being said, these two will be extremely familiar with each other, having already played four times against each other this season.
The strength of Spanish teams this season against English, German and Italian teams is clear to see, with three teams from La Liga in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Going back to the importance of home advantage, Barcelona have been unstoppable at home this season in all competitions.
As a matter of fact, the Blaugrana have only lost once at home this season, with that defeat coming against Paris Saint-Germain in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League back in October.
Since that point, Hansi Flick’s side has grown from strength to strength, progressed into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and opened up a gap in the La Liga title race.
If Atletico have any way of getting the better of Barca in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, they need to catch Flick’s side off guard at Camp Nou to have any chance of progressing into the last four of the competition.

FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid: Los Rojiblancos Needing To Right The Wrongs Of The La Liga Defeat
Diego Simeone’s side are nowhere near the La Liga race and are actually fighting with Villarreal for third place in the Spanish top flight.
This season has been less than ideal for Los Rojiblancos, but a Copa del Rey final and a potential place in the last four of the UEFA Champions League will definitely make for a good season.
Domestically, Simeone’s side may be miles behind Barcelona and Real Madrid; however, their run in the UEFA Champions League sees them stand shoulder to shoulder with the runaway pair in La Liga.
However, the task at hand for Atleti will be a tough one, but it isn’t something that they haven’t done in the past.
For Simeone, they haven’t beaten Barcelona this season at Camp Nou; however, they have executed a neat and dominant victory in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, when they beat Barca 4-0.
The last time they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League was back in the 2016/17 season, and they have found it hard to progress any further than the quarter-finals in the last eight seasons.
Whilst they have fallen behind Barcelona and Real Madrid domestically in the last couple of seasons, getting one over a La Liga rival in Europe will show a clear sign of intent.
With a place in the UEFA Champions League more or less confirmed for Atleti next season, a run at reaching the latter stages of the competition this season, along with achieving success in the Copa del Rey, will be the target for Simeone and his men.
FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid: Head-To-Head
When it comes to this season, Barca have the upper hand with three victories compared to Atleti’s one.
Generally speaking, the Blaugrana have almost double the amount of wins (41) than Los Rojiblancos (21) in the all-time head-to-head.
However, when it comes to the UEFA Champions League, Atletico have something to say in that regard.
With the force of Barcelona in the 2010s, the two sides faced off in the knockout stages in the 2013/14 and 2015/16 editions of the competition.
In the 2013/14 season, the first leg was drawn whilst the second leg was won by Atletico, and in the 2015/16 season, Los Rojiblancos turned the tie around after losing in the first leg, but progressing through after winning in the second leg and advancing on aggregate.
The FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid clash in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals will certainly be a feisty affair between two La Liga sides that will be looking to win it all.
