Manchester United’s form has gone from bad to worse as the Red Devils lost 3-1 to Brentford on Saturday, September 27. The number of times questions have been raised about Ruben Amorim’s job is surely more than the number of matches United have won this season.
United have now slipped to 13th position in the league table with seven points from six matches. The Red Devils have now lost in three of their matches this season already in the league.
Manchester United’s Form
United’s win against Chelsea last weekend seems to be another false dawn now, as the defeat against Brentford exposed the frailties of United’s defence once again. Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte failed to do justice to their role in the double-pivot yet another time.
Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal in a United shirt, but that does not even seem like a silver lining now. His goal could not have come with a worse outcome. Moreover, United’s inability to score more than one goal in a match came to the fore once again, as the triumvirate of new signings – Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo – failed to do much to trouble the Brentford defenders.
It is almost of no use trying to dissect Manchester United’s game these days, as the disappointment is diverse and complete for them. Amorim has totalled 33 points from 34 Premier League matches as United manager, which is pretty bad even for the manager of a mid-table club.
The usual phrases like “how the mighty have fallen” and “fall from grace” have already been used multiple times in the context of describing Manchester United’s form. Hence, they do not create any fresh impact either.

Will Manchester United’s Management React?
After the defeat to Manchester City a couple of weeks back, it was reported that Amorim would be given a window of three matches to improve his team’s performance. United won the first of those matches against a 10-man Chelsea, but have now been toppled in their next match.
Given Manchester United’s form continuing on a downward trajectory, the Ruben Amorim sack verdict is starting to feel less like speculation and more like an inevitability.
With a top manager like Antonio Conte plying his trade in Italy, it cannot be said that there are no eligible candidates to replace Amorim at the helm of United. There is also Zinedine Zidane, who has been available for a long time now.
If Manchester United are indeed the most attractive club in the world for a player or a manager, it should be reflected in their actions as well. A key feature at Real Madrid, United’s genuine rivals for the tag of “the biggest club in the world,” has always been one that they never allow their standards to drop.
Manchester United’s form is at an all-time low, and they will now have to decide how bad is really bad for them. They will have to decide whether they can allow their situation to deteriorate further. Sacking the manager might not always be a viable option, as they have found out in the past.
However, not trying to stem the rot may not be a respectable option either, especially when top people like Conte and Zidane have not been tried. The solution is not simple, but you do not become the biggest club in the world without ever making difficult decisions.
Ultimately, the coming weeks will determine whether the Ruben Amorim sacking conversation becomes a turning point for Manchester United or yet another chapter in their ongoing decline.
