Hugo Ekitike’s Form: Frenchman’s Fantastic Goalscoring Exploits Spearhead Liverpool’s Attack

Hugo Ekitike’s form for Liverpool has been one of the few positives for the Reds in their up-and-down season so far.

The French forward has had a positive impact in his debut season in England, and his latest exploits saw him score a brace against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Liverpool won the match 4-1 and thus remained in sixth position in the Premier League table, but had it not been for Hugo Ekitike’s form, their position would certainly be significantly worse.

Hugo Ekitike’s Form: Liverpool’s Attacking Man Of The Moment

Hugo Ekitike’s form has been quite brilliant and much-needed for Arne Slot’s team. He has scored 15 goals in 32 matches so far, and in the absence of the injured Alexander Isak, Ekitike has emerged as Liverpool’s best forward.

His importance to the club has been further enhanced by the fact that Mohamed Salah has not been in great form either.

As Florian Wirtz has now begun to shine, Liverpool have found scoring goals relatively easy in their recent matches because of the presence of Ekitike and Wirtz.

Hugo Ekitike’s form has even drawn comparisons with Fernando Torres from none other but ex-Liverpool captain and midfielder Steven Gerrard.

The Spanish forward scored a very creditable 81 goals in 142 matches for the Reds, but the way Ekitike runs behind the defensive line and carries the ball while breaking forward on counter-attacks can draw comparisons to what Torres used to do.

Ekitike is a swift mover on the pitch and has an eye for the goal; however, he should not think too far ahead in terms of being compared with past Liverpool legends and concentrate on making his season a bigger success instead.

With Isak likely to stay out for a long time, there will be ample opportunities to shine for Ekitike as Liverpool continue to improve under Arne Slot after a poor opening half of the season.

Hugo Ekitike’s Form: Should The Forward Be Considered For France’s 2026 World Cup Squad?

France are stacked with world-class talents all over the pitch. In the forward line alone, they have the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Thuram, Michael Olise and Randal Kolo Muani.

However, Hugo Ekitike’s form suggests that he should be able to break into the World Cup squad for France in 2026.

The Frenchman broke into the senior national team in 2025 and has earned six international caps so far.

With a host of fantastic names to choose from in the forward line, Didier Deschamps will have one of the toughest managerial decisions to make ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

As of now, Liverpool’s investment in Ekitike seems to be a fruitful one, as the Frenchman’s goals continue to be a shining light for the Reds.

The Reds, however, should be desperate for a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season, and Hugo Ekitike’s form will be important in their push for a place in European elite competition next season.

Salah might regain some of his form as the season further progresses, and that should help Liverpool as well.

However, as of now, Ekitike is the man Slot should look to the most for his side to score goals, and the Frenchman has done a lot already to repay his manager.
