Injury Worry Concerns Jurgen Klopp Following Inter Milan Success

It was a positive night for Jurgen Klopp in Milan as Liverpool beat Inter in their last 16 first leg tie in the San Siro but an injury worry concerns the Liverpool boss with Diego Jota having to leave the pitch at half time.

Jurgen Klopp Has Injury Worry Despite Win

Jota Injury

Jota has been a standout player in the 2021/22 season for Liverpool having scored 17 goals in all competitions but an ankle injury in the San Siro has left Klopp with a major concern. The Reds boss told Sky Sports Football;

“I’m really happy with everything, apart from that Diogo had to go off with something around the ankle ligament. We will see, we don’t know exactly. He could have played on, maybe that’s a good sign, but at half-time, the ankle was swollen anyway so we knew we had to change.”

Only Half Time

The injury to Jota wasn’t enough to take the gloss of a superb performance in Italy that has given Liverpool one foot in the last eight of this seasons Champions League. Klopp remains cautious and is aware that this is only half time;

“It’s half-time, nothing else. It will be a tricky one and we have to be ready for that. They played good, they played differently, but they are really good and that’s why it is half-time, 2-0. If it is a proper half-time, Like today, if it was 2-0 at half-time I don’t tell my boys ‘Job done, put your legs on the table’. It is a tricky result so why should we think about it now.“

Strong Defence

Klopp was pleased with how his side defended as they stopped Inter having even one shot on target;

”You have to defend with passion, organisation helps as well. Defensively it was a really strong performance but it would be silly if we didn’t defend well as it means a lot to us this competition and we invested a lot.”
