While Bayern Munich were able to win on Wednesday against 1. FC Köln, and thus finish the opening half of the Bundesliga season on a high, there is still cause for concern due to the lack of options coach Vincent Kompany has available for the right-back position in particular.

The next match, away to RB Leipzig, promises to be a difficult one. Even more so with so many absences. Here, we bring you our Bayern Munich injury report.

The Bayern Munich Injury Report: Injuries To Potential Right- Backs

As noted above, the right back position has been hit the hardest when it comes to injuries or other absences. This Bayern Munich injury report is so full of players who play that position, forcing Kompany to improvise against Leipzig.

Konrad Laimer is easily the most underrated player at the club. He works for the team like no other and does the dirty work in any position where he is needed.

That most often happens to be the right-back position, despite the fact that the Austrian international mostly sees himself as a midfielder.

Laimer suffered a torn muscle fibre in his left calf in the late stages of Wednesday’s Köln game and will certainly be out for the time being.

That wouldn’t have been nearly as bad had it not been for Josip Stanišić’s injury at the weekend against VfL Wolfsburg. The Croatian international is dealing with a capsular injury that will likely keep him out for weeks.

To make matters even worse, Sacha Boey, the last resort right-back, whom Bayern have been hoping to sell during this January transfer window, is also out with illness.

Meanwhile, midfield maestro Joshua Kimmich, who plays right-back for Germany, has been suffering from ankle problems since last November, and will likely also not be able to help out against Leipzig on Saturday evening.

Other Injuries and Absences

But this Bayern Munich injury report doesn’t, of course, just deal with right-backs. Jamal Musiala remains out with a broken fibula, sustained at the quarterfinal loss to PSG at the Club World Cup last summer.

Alphonso Davies is sidelined with illness after recovering from his ACL injury last month.

Meanwhile, the new signing, the youngster Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, is also out with a knock, although it is unclear whether he is expected to play for the first team.

Nicolas Jackson is still on international duty with Senegal, as they take on Morocco in the AFCON final on Sunday, January 18.

Final Thoughts

Of course, as we mentioned throughout this Bayern Munich injury report, the right-back position almost seems cursed at the moment. Still, for the Leipzig game, Vincent Kompany will likely opt for Raphaël Guerreiro in that position, where he has also contributed this season.

But whatever happens, there is a great team chemistry in the side, which has helped them overcome many obstacles this term. The team have played the best first half of a Bundesliga season in league history. So far, they have also performed extremely well in Europe.

Those things are worth far more than the problems expressed in this Bayern Munich injury report.
