When INEOS bought a minority stake in Manchester United and took control of sporting decisions, Red Devils fans were pulled back in. INEOS group CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe appointed a host of new functionaries, including Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. However, despite the attempt to modernise Manchester United’s footballing structure, not much has changed on the ground – the club is still struggling to win games.

Despite buying Newcastle United’s ex-Sporting Director and poaching a couple of highly qualified personnel from Manchester City, why are Manchester United unable to turn the situation around?

INEOS Might Be Worse Than The Glazers

Much was made of INEOS’ minority share purchase. Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted to give fans the joy they had lost in the last few years. However, despite the huge ambition and appeasing the fans, nearly everything has gone wrong ever since the INEOS era began.

Getting Off To A Good Start: How The INEOS Story Began

When Manchester United fans learned about a potential tweak to the ownership structure, they were rightly excited. Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke ambitiously about his plans for the club – how he’s going to hire the “best in class” at any cost. So Dan Ashworth, one of the most important architects of Newcastle’s recent resurgence, along with Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, two of Manchester City’s finest, joined the club. However, the first summer under the new ownership was enough to show one thing – things aren’t right behind the scenes.

To Sack Or Not To Sack?

Burdened by the question of keeping Erik Ten Hag or sacking him, the new footballing structure, led by Dan Ashworth, decided to renew his contract with help arriving from the Netherlands. Having watched football for many a year, it was an interesting choice – when a manager starts to lose his grip over the football club and struggles to win games, the situation is rarely reversed. However, when Ruud Van Nistelrooy came in, the unthinkable happened – the team started playing better than ever before under Ten Hag.

However, Erik Ten Hag’s ill-timed substitutions, questionable team picks and a host of other issues eventually became the Dutch tactician’s undoing, costing him his job. At this point, you must be wondering – with such an elite behind-the-scenes structure, surely they would get the next managerial appointment right. I mean, they would listen to the people they hired, right?

The Ruben Amorim Saga: Where Jason Wilcox And Omar Berrada Went Wrong

Wilcox and Berrada wanted Ruben Amorim to replace Ten Hag; Ashworth didn’t. Curiously, Wilcox is a training-ground man while Berrada handles the financials. Exactly why did their opinion have the same weight as Ashworth’s? Faced with boardroom conflict, Sir Jim Ratcliffe did away with the ex-Newcastle man, preferring to hand over the reins to the two ex-City men instead.

Why Manchester United Fans Actually Want The Club To Get Relegated

Things have gotten so sour down at the “Theatre of Dreams” that fans want the club to be relegated. “It may be the only way the Glazers sell this club,” said one such troubled fan during a talkSPORT interview.

Frustrated by the club’s worsening fortunes, and tired of competing with the regime’s puppets like Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, their patience might finally be coming to an end. The time is ripe for a big change at Old Trafford – will Sir Jim Ratcliffe take a sporting perspective and get rid of Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, or will he place loyalty over what the club needs at this dire moment?

Extra Time Notes

Despite the bright and positive start to life under INEOS, Manchester United have discovered they are probably worse than the club’s majority American owners. Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada have grown to be two of the most hated executives in the club’s history, posing as the figureheads of this incompetent regime.

After many broken promises, false dawns and a spate of disappointing results under Michael Carrick – the fans want the unthinkable to happen: Manchester United gets relegated so their parasitic owners finally leave the club. Will Manchester United sack Michael Carrick and call it a day, or will more influential members like Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada suffer the axe too?
