Joao Pedro Form Indicates That He Might Become the Main Man for Brazil

The current Joao Pedro form for Chelsea is quite good at the moment. Pedro has the unenviable job of playing in the No.9 position for the Royal Blues, especially when Cole Palmer has been mostly injured this season so far.

Pedro has scored four goals and registered three assists in 14 matches for Chelsea so far. The numbers are not strikingly good, but he is slowly finding his groove and proving his signing to be a quality one. Moreover, Pedro has now scored once in each of Chelsea’s last two matches in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro Form Means That He Could Be Brazil’s Best Hope for the Next World Cup

The current Joao Pedro form is good news for the Brazilian team as well. Pedro earned his first call-up for the Selecao in 2023 but has only earned five caps for them so far. However, as Richarlison has not yet been able to cement his place in the starting XI of Brazil, Pedro will have to fight it out with Matheus Cunha primarily for the place of No.9 position in the Brazilian national team.

However, to be seriously in contention for a guaranteed place in the starting line-up for his national team, Pedro will have to perform really well this season for Chelsea. The Royal Blues are genuine contenders to finish inside the top four this Premier League season. Brazil have players like Vinicius Junior, Raphinha and Rodrygo, all seasoned campaigners, but the current Joao Pedro form indicates that he might be the man for the future.

Still, they will need Pedro to score a considerable number of goals in order to finish inside the top four. Liam Delap, another player who plays in the No.9 position and new signing for Chelsea, has had injury issues for the majority of the season so far. Still, he has managed to perform reasonably well for the Blues.

Hence, the onus is firmly on the 24-year-old Brazilian to score goals for them. Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s talismanic player, has also had injury issues of late, which means that the supply of passes has not been that great for Pedro.

The Brazilian can also play on the left flank or as the No.10, which shows his versatility as a player. Pedro scored 30 goals and registered nine assists in 70 matches for Brighton & Hove Albion, his previous club. His performances made Chelsea take notice and sign him, which has proved to be the correct decision so far.

Pedro has shown his ability to combine with the likes of Pedro Neto, Estevao and Jamie Gittens, Chelsea’s wingers. He has good ball control, and his finishing ability is good, but probably needs further refinement.

Upcoming International Friendlies

Brazil will take on Senegal and Tunisia in their next two international friendlies on November 15 and November 18, respectively. It will be a chance for Pedro to shine and reinforce his position in the national team in those matches.

As the Brazilian goes from strength to strength, the Chelsea supporters will like to think that they have finally gotten a quality No. 9 after Didier Drogba. However, Pedro will have to go a long way in order to even come close to emulating Drogba. However, it is probably not beyond his capabilities.
