A Jordan Henderson brace helped Chelsea beat Bournemouth 5-1 in Gameweek 6 of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Henderson played in only his second match of the season against Bournemouth and justified his signing at the age of 36 by Chelsea.
The Jordan Henderson brace came as a bit of a surprise, as he does not score goals that often. The fact that he registered an assist, too, goes on to show what a nice game he had.
Jordan Henderson Brace Kicks off Chelsea Career
The Jordan Henderson brace exhibited his attacking ability that was largely suppressed while playing for Liverpool. Henderson played in 492 matches and scored 33 goals for Liverpool in his 12 seasons with them.
That is not a great goal-scoring record, although his great ability to cross the ball into the box came to the fore while playing for Liverpool. Henderson also won the Premier League and Champions League with the Reds.
He then had short stints in the Saudi Pro League and Dutch Eredivisie before coming back to the Premier League at Brentford. He scored a solitary goal for Brentford in 34 matches last season, which again proves that the Jordan Henderson brace for Chelsea against Bournemouth was an anomaly.
Henderson played in the double pivot alongside Moises Caicedo. Having a formidable defensive partner by his side meant that Henderson was able to attack more often. It allowed him to score two goals and have an assist.
However, at his age, Henderson is unlikely to play for 90 minutes on a regular basis. He is more likely to be used as a squad player only. However, with more than 500 matches under his belt in the top flight of English club football, Henderson brings a wealth of experience for Chelsea, which should prove to be valuable for them.

Extra Time Notes
Chelsea have both scored and conceded goals for fun this season so far. Even buying Emi Martinez has not sorted their defensive issues out. In such a scenario, the Royal Blues will have to depend upon their double pivot a lot to guard the largely unproven defence.
Henderson, therefore, has a crucial role to play this season. He will be needed to fill in for any of Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, each of whom should be given preference over him while choosing the two midfielders for the pivot in a match against any of the big teams.
Even if Henderson is able to play in 25-30 matches for Chelsea this season, it should be deemed a success at his age. He will be 37 next season and might not be able to continue playing for Chelsea beyond that.
However, as the Jordan Henderson brace against Bournemouth showed, his utility for the team is not merely warming the bench. Chelsea have a very talented and young front three, and hence, any attacking contribution Henderson can make should prove to be helpful for them.
It remains to be seen whether the Jordan Henderson brace should propel him towards more success for the veteran English midfielder in the ongoing season.
