Ludwig Augustinsson Creates History with Sweden

What Drama as Mexico finish above Germany and send the current world-champions out. Ludwig Augustinsson opening the scoring with a powerful shot and then were awarded a penalty which Granqvist cooly placed. It got worst for Mexico as Edson Alvarez missed-hit clearance found its way into the back of the net.

Ludwig Augustinsson Opening the Scoring

At the time this was a big, big goal for Sweden. Ludwig Augustinsson opened the scoring with a brilliant finish which was knocking Germany out of the group stage. The Swedish left-back received the ball after some scrappy play. It felt straight to the defender on the back-post as he powered a shot past Ochoa. It was Ludwig first international goal so what a time to get.

Andreas Granqvist

Not long after Andreas Granqvist made it 2-0 and was sending Sweden through. Their was no VAR needed as Hector Moreno made a stupid challenge which brought Marcus Berg down. Just like the opening game, the 33-year-old stood up to take the penalty from six yards out. Like Harry Kane, the smash technique works wonder again after Granqvist’s penalty needed two keepers to save it.

Edson Alvarez makes Huge Mistake

Edson at the time must of thought of the worst as his initial clearance found its way into the back of the net. Sweden uses the long throw tactic as it works wonders again. The Mexico defender miss-hit his clearance which hits off him and past his Keeper, Ochoa. After two fantastic opening games, it seemed Mexico was heading for the exit door. Due to conceding three goals, Germany only had to get that one vital goal to send them through but the Mexicans were celebrating at the end.

Sweden Top Group, Mexico Finish Second

An hour before kick-off, it seemed Mexico were pretty much guaranteed but thanks to South Korea they just scrap it to the round of 16. However, Sweden do top the group with a fantastic performance over Mexico who now finished second. The Swedes will now face whoever comes second in Group E with Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil still fighting for qualification. Mexico will also face the winners of group e which is most likely Brazil but completely depends on tonight’s results.
