Manchester City Bounce Back Against Norwich City

Manchester City bounced back after a disappointing start to the new season as they lost to Tottenham Hotspur last week. However in their first match at home against one of the promoted teams, Norwich City they got themselves running.

Manchester City was ruthless in front of their fans as they scored five goals without conceding a single one. There were four different goal scorers in the game along with an own goal for good measure.

Norwich City on the other hand didn’t have control of the game since the first minute.

Manchester City had the upper hand in the game. They had possession of 67%. Pep Guardiola had a usual formation of 4-3-3 for the game. Manchester City had 16 shots in the whole game from which only 4 were on target.  All the goals scored were from inside the box.

Having different goals scorers in the game,  unfortunately, Tim Krul scored an own goal in the first seven minutes. After that the world-record signing, Jack Grealish scored his first goal for Manchester City within 22 minutes.

In the second half, Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias also scored one goal each. Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez came off the bench and they both also ended up on the score sheet. In the whole match, Manchester City had a total of 684 passes with an accuracy of 94%. 

They had more than 450 passes in the opposition half. Another interesting fact about the game is that Manchester City has won their last three home Premier League games against Norwich City by an aggregate score of 14-1, winning 5-0 in the most recent league meeting at the Etihad in July 2020.

Disappointing Start For Norwich City

Norwich City is yet to win a game in the season. They have not yet scored a goal till now and it will be an uphill for them in the upcoming matches. Norwich City had just one shot in the whole game and that shot was also off target. They had 33% possession which defined their afternoon at the Etihad. Daniel Farke went with the usual  4-3-3 formation for the game. They were just not able to keep the ball to themselves.

Manchester City dominated in every aspect of the game. Norwich City just had around 300 passes in the whole game. In those 300 passes, only 49 passes were in the opposition half. Norwich City signings like Billy Gilmour and Ben Gibson are yet to show their mark in Carrow road. 

Norwich City would get back to a midweek fixture of the Carabao Cup against AFC Bournemouth at their home. After that, they will again have a tricky as well as an important match against the winner of the Community Shield and the FA Cup, Leicester City. It is a home match for them but if you see the form in the recent matches, Leicester City will be in the favour of winning the game. Norwich City will be looking to grab their first points of the season in the upcoming fixture.

On the other hand, Manchester City will be facing Arsenal who is also yet to win a game in the season. Arsenal had a rough start of the season and are also yet to score this season. It will be one of the interesting matches before the international break.
