Manchester City vs Newcastle: Omar Marmoush’s Double Fires City Into Carabao Cup Final

Omar Marmoush’s double in the Manchester City vs Newcastle game was vital for the Citizens, who beat the Geordies 3-1 in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg to set up a massive final against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Marmoush has now scored three goals since his return to club football from AFCON, and Omar Marmoush’s double just proves how important of a player he is for Manchester City as they look to keep their hopes of multiple titles alive this season.

Manchester City vs Newcastle: Omar Marmoush’s Double Shows His Importance In The City Squad

After having a brilliant first half of the season, Erling Haaland has experienced a slight drop off in his form for the last month or so.

The Norwegian is still the top goal-scorer in the Premier League this season, but his relative underperformance means that Manchester City need somebody else to step up in terms of scoring goals.

Phil Foden has also had a very ordinary 2026 so far and struggles to make it to the playing XI for Manchester City these days.

Omar Marmoush’s double is very important for the Citizens as they have another worthy goalscorer in their squad.

Marmoush has scored 12 goals in 45 appearances for City so far, which is not a very desirable strike rate for a player of his calibre, but he has been very much a rotation player in Pep Guardiola’s system.

Since his return from the AFCON, the Egyptian has been showing positive signs as he has been reintegrated into the playing squad, and his double in the Carabao Cup semi-final will do him a world of good.

Marmoush’s versatility allows him to play either as the lone striker or a second striker in a 4-4-1-1 or as a left-winger.

This is another reason why Omar Marmoush’s double in the Manchester City vs Newcastle game is really important for the Citizens.

He has great finishing abilities, which make him a really dangerous player in the final third, as his mobility and skills can be of paramount importance in the final third.

However, as Rayan Cherki has played occasionally as the left-winger and Antoine Semenyo has also arrived at City as the right-winger, now the competition is really stiff for a place in the front-three of a 4-3-3.

With Haaland almost guaranteed to start in important matches, it is really difficult for Marmoush to get enough game time unless he stands out with his performances repeatedly.

Omar Marmoush Slowly Returning To His Goalscoring Best

Marmoush scored 37 goals in 67 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt before coming to Manchester City.

Although he is yet to shine in the same manner for City, his recent form has shown flashes of his brilliance.

The Cityzens will only hope that Omar Marmoush’s form keeps getting better as the second half of the season progresses.

City have been perennially chasing Arsenal this season, but the Gunners are still enjoying a seven-point lead, which could turn out to be decisive.

Pep Guardiola will pin a lot of hope on his Egyptian forward, who should strive to rise to the challenge.

He has been plagued with injuries in the first half of the season, but now is the time to compensate for the lost time.

It remains to be seen whether Marmoush can do that and also do enough to pay back the club management for the faith they have put in him.
