The 2-1 Manchester City win vs Arsenal in a Premier League match on Sunday, April 19, put the Cityzens within three points of the Gunners with a match in hand. The Manchester City win was secured by strikes from Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland in either half.
Victory in the Manchester City vs Arsenal clash took Pep Guardiola’s men to 67 points in 32 matches, while Arsenal have 70 in 33. The Cityzens now look good for their seventh title in nine seasons, as the momentum is firmly with them.
Manchester City Win Showed the Undeniable Quality in Their Squad
The Manchester City win came despite a somewhat uncomfortable start in the face of a sustained high-pressure from Arsenal’s front three. However, as the Cityzens started playing forward passes through the press, the complexion of the match started changing.
The likes of Rodri and Marc Guehi exhibited their ability to play forward passes, and Bernardo Silva was tireless in setting the tone from deep midfield. However, the real change in Manchester City’s game was brought about from the second half onwards, as Nico O’Reilly started going into overlaps to assist Jeremy Doku.
As Doku kept making his runs down the left flank, O’Reilly kept shifting inside to give the Belgian winger an option to pass the ball to. City’s second goal came that way, as Haaland shot home first-time from O’Reilly’s pass.
Despite the Cityzens’ ability to play the passing game in the finest possible way, it was two moments of individual brilliance that proved decisive in the end. First, it was Cherki’s run through a tight space, dribbling past defenders, that led to the opening goal. Then, it was Doku’s turn to stamp his class with a run.

Quality Puts Manchester City Ahead in Premier League Title Race
The quality in the Manchester City line-up was there for everyone to see. Arsenal, on the other hand, got their goal fortuitously, as Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to clear the ball with his feet properly. Eberechi Eze hit the post, and Donnarumma made a brilliant save to deny Kai Havertz, but the overall brilliance was so often missing from the Arsenal forwards.
The Cityzens have shown frequently in the recent past that they have the best quality of players among all the teams in the Premier League. It is evident if one compares the performance of the players of the two teams in their respective positions.
O’Reilly was more effective than Hincapie, Cherki much more skilful than Martin Odegaard, Rodri much more decisive in his passing than Declan Rice and so on. Once again, Man City are performing at their best when it matters the most.
Arsenal, meanwhile, keep floundering at a time that demands an improvement in their performances. Mikel Arteta has often been found wanting and should he fail to win the Premier League title once again, it might be difficult for him to save his job.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, looks set to win his seventh Premier League title in nine seasons for the Manchester-based club. The Manchester City win thus makes their supporters hopeful for yet another silverware this season.
