Manchester United Open Talks To Sign ‘Special’ 22-Goal Bundesliga Forward

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their attacking force for the start of the 2025/26 season after suffering a horrible 15th-place finish in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

After having already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, they seem to be on the lookout for more goal-scorers and are making moves to potentially sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ektike.

Have United Made a Bid To Sign Ekitike Yet?

Sky Sports’ reporter Dharmesh Sheth has reported that Manchester United have now held initial talks with the Bundesliga side to discuss the possible signing of French forward, Hugo Ekitike.

The reporter also claims that there has been a formal bid made by the Premier League side as of yet, but that they are wanting more clarity on the conditions to strike a deal.

Sheth has also reported that the Red Devils feel that agreeing on personal terms or a contract with Ekitike will not be a problem.

There is a feeling that the 22-year-old would be open to the move, but the Red Devils are aware that their Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in the Bundesliga forward.

The reporter claims that Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Ekitike’s development for quite a while and that Ruben Amorim’s side remain in the market to sign a new centre-forward irrespective of what happens with the future of Rasmus Hojlund.

How Can Hugo Ekitike Fit In At Manchester United?

Hugo Ekitike was one of the most exciting forwards to watch in the 2024/25 Bundesliga title and played a major role in helping Eintracht Frankfurt achieve a top-three finish and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

The French forward was able to bag 22 goals and provide 12 assists for the German side across all competitions last season, which also included 15 goals and eight assists in 33 league games.

The 22-year-old is a promising centre-forward who has also proven his ability to drop into deeper areas, carry the ball forward to help create more chances for himself and his teammates.

Last season, Ekitike was able to average 3.04 progressive carries and 7.53 progressive passes per 90 minutes for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, showing how well he can actually carry the ball into the danger areas.

Moreover, the Frenchman also averaged 3.74 shot attempts per 90 minutes and 3.50 shot-creating actions per 90, which proves his overall threat in causing trouble to the opposition goalkeeper or defenders.

Ekitike is a centre-forward who can occasionally play as a left winger or a second striker too. He has been hailed as “special” in the past, and Netherlands legend Wesley Sneijder was all praise for him.

After Ekitike scored in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4-1 win over Ajax in the UEFA Europa League (Round of 16 second leg), Sneijder told Ziggo Sport: “Now, I may say something really crazy, but I’ll say it anyway: I think he is a mix between Neymar and Mbappe. I sincerely mean that.”

With Rasmus Hojlund only scoring four Premier League goals in the 2024/25 campaign and Joshua Zirkzee also managing only two goals, the Red Devils can benefit from an explosive, quick centre forward like Ekitike in their front line.
