The six nominees for the PFA Player of the Year have been declared.
Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice, Alexander Isak and Alexis Mac Allister have all been nominated. Last year’s winner Phil Foden was nowhere near the list this time around.
The winner will be declared in August this year.
As of now, Mohamed Salah remains the hot favourite to win the award for the third time in his career. The Egyptian also managed to get a contract renewal at Liverpool last season.
Mohamed Salah
Salah won the Premier League title for the second time with the Reds last season. The 33-year-old Egyptian scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists in 38 league matches and finished the season with 34 goals in 52 matches in total.
His numbers are too good to be ignored, and therefore, he is likely to win the Player of the Year award.
Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland
Isak, with 23 goals in 34 Premier League matches, and Erling Haaland, with 22 from 31 matches, were the second and third-highest goal-scorers last season.
The fact that both of them are significantly behind Salah in terms of scoring goals makes the Egyptian worthy of the award.
Isak has done well to be nominated for the season. His tally of 27 goals in only 42 matches in the season proves that there is probably no better No. 9 other than Haaland in England at the moment.
Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer has made it to the list for the second successive season despite being slightly underwhelming last season.
The young English midfielder scored 15 goals and registered eight assists in 37 matches in the Premier League last season.
While they are still good numbers, they are significantly less than the 22 goals and 11 assists he had in the previous season.
However, Palmer’s being there as one of the two Englishmen in the list proves that he is the most sought-after English footballer in English football today.

Declan Rice
Declan Rice keeps justifying the price tag of over £100 million that Arsenal had for him. He scored four goals and had seven assists in 35 Premier League matches last season.
His two goals from direct free-kicks against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals was the highlight of the season for him.
Rice excelled as a No. 8 with Thomas Partey playing as the defensive midfielder behind him for the Gunners.
Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes once again had a very good season, even though Manchester United had a forgettable one.
Fernandes had eight goals and 10 assists in 36 Premier League matches last season and finished the season with 19 goals across all competitions.
The Red Devils’ inability to win the Europa League despite reaching the final was, however, a negative for him.
Alexis Mac Allister
Lastly, one finds it a bit baffling to see Mac Allister as one of the nominees, as Ryan Gravenberch was probably Liverpool’s stand-out midfielder during the season.
Still, Mac Allister had five goals and five assists in 35 league matches in the season and played an important role in the midfield for Arne Slot’s team.
However, as already mentioned, it is difficult to look beyond Salah as the eventual winner. The Egyptian thus has a strong case of being considered as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
