Alexander Isak, one of the key Newcastle United players, is hot property these days. After having scored 25 goals in the previous season, Isak is once again having a successful season this time around. He is the primary reason Newcastle is fifth in the Premier League table.
Eddie Howe’s side have won their last four league matches and is one of the most in-form teams in England. With Isak continuing his good run, a number of clubs might want to sign him in the ongoing Transfer Window.
Key Newcastle United player this season
The 25-year-old Swedish striker has scored 13 goals in 20 matches this season for the Magpies. Quite naturally, he is on the radar of a few big clubs. Arsenal, who have been in need of a genuine No. 9 for some time now, seem to be interested in getting Isak’s services.
His contract with Newcastle expires in 2028, but it seems highly unlikely that he will stay at the club until then. Should Arsenal come calling, he might find it to be too big a temptation to refuse. However, it remains to be seen whether he decides to change his loyalties this month itself.
Isak is a big man and stands tall at six feet four inches. His aerial prowess and hold-up play are quite good. His ability to exchange passes with his teammates in the final third could be an asset for a club like Arsenal. He has got a winger like Anthony Gordon playing alongside him at Newcastle United, whose crosses from the left have often paved the way for his goals.
Isak has scored 48 goals in 87 matches for Newcastle, which is a considerably better record than Kai Havertz’s at Arsenal. The German striker has 26 goals in 76 matches for the Gunners, which is not quite the kind of numbers one would associate with a genuine No. 9.
Although Gabriel Jesus has started having a good time for Arsenal, Isak’s inclusion will undoubtedly strengthen them. However, all of that is merely speculation at this point, as Isak still very much belongs to Newcastle United.
Newcastle have a few key matches coming up
Newcastle will play against Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth in their next three Premier League matches. They will also take on Arsenal in the EFL Cup semifinal in between, which is very important for their title aspirations this season.
Isak continues to be a crucial part of Howe’s side. They depend a lot on him to score their goals and win matches for them. At the moment, there is hardly any other No. 9 in the Premier League aside from Erling Haaland, who is as prolific as Isak.
The forward is third on the list for most Premier League goals so far this season with 12, only ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (17) and Haaland (14).
The Swede should be entering his prime at the moment. He previously had a stint with Real Sociedad in La Liga and is quite experienced. Thus, probably a stint at a bigger club awaits him now. It remains to be seen whether he makes a move to one of them this month itself or waits till summer.
