Premier League Title Race: Arsenal Are Still In Control Despite Manchester City’s Resurgence

The Premier League title race was blown wide open after Arsenal suffered a shock home defeat to Bournemouth, and Manchester City eased Chelsea aside with a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

This swing in results reduced the gap between the two clubs to six points and has cast doubt on whether Arsenal can see off their title rivals.

Manchester City look poised to leapfrog Arsenal in the coming weeks, but the Premier League title race is still in Arsenal’s control.

Six points clear, a crucial game against Manchester City and their favourable fixtures in the run-in could be enough to finally help Arsenal over the line and see them win the Premier League title.

Premier League Title Race: Arsenal’s Points Advantage Cannot Be Ignored

Although Arsenal’s recent results have been disappointing, they still sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League. It is a strong position to be in, and one anyone associated with the Gunners would have taken back in August.

Manchester City do have a game in hand, however. A win against Arsenal and a win in their game in hand would see them leapfrog Arsenal and sit top of the Premier League with five games to play.

Having said that, Manchester City have to win that game and beat Arsenal as well. Arsenal’s cushion of six points is still a strong lead, and one City will have to work very hard to reduce.

Many clubs have been in this position with games in hand but failed to capitalise. Points already secured cannot be taken away, and that is why Arsenal remain in the driving seat.

The Premier League Title Race Is Still In Arsenal’s Control

Arsenal’s fate is still in their hands. A win against Manchester City would surely end the Premier League title race. However, a draw would also help Arsenal’s position.

A draw would keep the gap at six points, but Manchester City would still have their game in hand. Win that, and they would close the gap to three points with five games remaining. That is a far more precarious position for Arsenal than the current six-point cushion suggests.

Mikel Arteta managed a draw at the Etihad in his last two Premier League visits there, and a repeat of this would be a welcome result for Arsenal and strengthen their grip on the title.

Despite this, Arsenal cannot afford to go to the Etihad to play for a draw. Manchester City are in fantastic form, and they are clicking into gear at the right time again, as they always seem to do around this time of the season.

A loss for Arsenal would not cost them the league, but with Manchester City’s form and history at this time of year, Arsenal would do well to regain their status as clear favourites.

On the other hand, a win for Arsenal would put one hand on the Premier League trophy.

Three points for Arsenal would put them nine points clear before City’s game in hand, and with games running out, it would surely be too big a gap for Manchester City to claw back.

A win would give Arsenal a major confidence boost and give them a sense of relief with a bigger cushion at the top. It would take a major implosion to derail their dreams of bringing the Premier League title to the Emirates Stadium.

Premier League Title Race: Favourable Fixtures Give Arsenal The Edge

With just five games remaining after the crucial clash with Manchester City, Arsenal’s fixture run gives them every reason for confidence.

Home clashes against Newcastle United, Fulham and Burnley, alongside away trips to West Ham United and Crystal Palace, represent a kind set of fixtures for a side chasing a first title in over two decades.

Arsenal have already beaten all five of those sides this season and conceded just once across those fixtures combined.

Manchester City’s remaining schedule is more demanding. Away trips to Burnley, Everton and Bournemouth and home fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Brentford could yet cost them points at the crucial stage.

However, Arsenal must first get a result against City next weekend. A win or a draw keeps the Premier League title race in their hands and makes those favourable fixtures count. Anything less, and the pressure on every remaining game becomes significantly greater.

Premier League Title Race: Arsenal’s Title To Lose

Arsenal are in a very strong position in this Premier League title race. Six points clear of Manchester City, a crucial away clash at the Etihad next weekend, and a favourable fixture run after that. Everything is set up for Arsenal to finally win a long-overdue Premier League title.

Pressure will play a key role in the run-in. Manchester City are relentless at this time of year, and Arsenal have to put a stop to their recent form and get a result at the Etihad.

This Premier League title race is set to go down to the wire, and there may be many twists and turns left to come; however, Arsenal are in pole position, and only themselves stand in the way of their first Premier League title in 22 years.
