Mohamed Salah was bought by Liverpool in 2017 from Roma. No one could have predicted the career the Egyptian would go on to have at Anfield. He has become a Champions League winner, a Premier League winner twice and won four Golden Boots along the way.

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool legacy is not just about trophies and goals, but it is about a player who defined an era.

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool Legacy: The Statistics Behind One of Liverpool’s Greatest Ever Players

On August 12, 2017, Salah’s Liverpool legacy launched.

The Egyptian scored his first goal for Liverpool on his debut in a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Watford.

That goal was a sign of things to come. Salah has now scored 257 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and sits third in the Reds’ all-time top goalscorer list. He is comfortably ahead in the Champions League top scorer table on 48 goals, 18 strikes clear of another Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard.

Salah has not just been a goalscorer for Liverpool; he has also assisted 119 goals for the club. His combined 376 goal contributions tell the story of a player central to everything Liverpool did going forward.

In his debut season, Salah broke the Premier League scoring record in a 38-game season by netting 32 times.

In the 2024/25 campaign, Salah’s Liverpool legacy was enhanced by winning another Golden Boot with 29 goals and also winning his second Playmaker Award, leading the Premier League assist chart with 18, and these numbers set a record for the most combined goals and assists in a 38-game season.

This exceptional season helped Liverpool register their second Premier League title in five years.

The Trophies That Cemented His Liverpool Legacy

During Salah’s record-breaking nine-year career at Liverpool, he has been vital in propelling Liverpool to the top of the Premier League on two occasions.

He also scored his only cup final goal in a 2-0 Champions League final victory over Tottenham in 2019 to deliver a sixth Champions League title for Liverpool.

On top of the two Premier League titles and Champions League success, he has also added an FA Community Shield, two Carabao Cups, an FA Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup. This extensive list cements Salah’s Liverpool legacy beyond any doubt.

What makes these trophies even more significant is the era in which they were won. Liverpool had waited 30 years to win the Premier League title before Salah arrived. He was central to ending that wait and then winning it again, as a generation of Liverpool fans grew up watching Salah deliver the moments they had only dreamed of.

The individual accolades are equally staggering and further cement Salah’s Liverpool legacy. Four Premier League Golden Boots, three PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards, three FWA Footballer of the Year awards and two African Player of the Year awards, among many others. An extraordinary collection that places Salah among the greatest players, if not the greatest, to have graced the Premier League.

The End Of An Era: Is Liverpool Ready To Move On Without Salah?

Salah has cemented himself as one of the greatest of all time in Liverpool’s history, and Salah’s Liverpool legacy will be remembered for generations to come.

Despite this, his form this season has been far from the standard he has set himself. Often criticised and losing his place in Liverpool’s starting XI shows that all eras come to an end, and now seems the natural time for Liverpool and Salah to part ways.

When Salah leaves the club this summer, Liverpool must find his replacement.

The club face a near impossible task to find a player that will replicate the impact that the Egyptian has had over the last nine years, but it is a decision Liverpool must get right. No matter who comes in, one thing is certain: there will never be another Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
