Mason Mount and Jorginho Secure All Three Points for Chelsea
Three Wins in a Row for Tuchel’s Men
The game got off to a frantic start in the opening stages as Oliver Burke latched on to a through ball just 30 seconds into the game however his shot could only hit the side netting. Sheffield United looking nothing like a side with just 11 points from their 23 games and again showed their intent when they thought that they had won a penalty.
Ben Chilwell, the guilty man fouling Chris Basham but luckily for the Blues; VAR reviewed the incident and deemed the defender to be in an offside position. Chelsea started to show their quality from then on and in the 42nd minute, they got their reward.
The England left-back slid in Timo Werner, who was looking a major threat all half; managed to play a defence-splitting cutback to Mason Mount who finished with precision to send Chelsea in at the break one goal to the good.
A Spirited Performance From the Blues
The Blades were out to avenge that late first-half goal with a quick response in the second. In the 54th minute, they were rather fortunate. A bizarre own goal by Antonio Rudiger paved a way back into the match for them. A lack of communication was obvious between goalkeeper and centre back, and as Edouard Mendy rushed off, his goal-line Rudiger tried to play past the onrushing keeper and into his own net.
Chelsea immediately responded and a minute later had a penalty. Kean Bryan with an under-hit backpass allowed German striker Werner to intercept, and as he rounded goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale forcing him to commit the foul resulting in a penalty.
This time VAR did not overturn the original decision as Jorginho converted in his typical style to make it 2-1 to Chelsea. The penalty rather took the sails out of Chris Wilder’s side as the final attacking push from the Blades never came.
The game ended 2-1 to Chelsea which takes them 5th in the Premier League table. The Thomas Tuchel era is definitely up and running with Chelsea hunting the Champions league positions.
