Three players Manchester Utd should offload in January 2024

While Premier League big clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have kick-started their campaign in high spirit, Manchester United has strived to cope with the present realities in the 2023-24 season.

The Red Devils have been inconsistent and are momentarily ranked eighth in the Premier League standings, having registered 18 points from 11 games.

Likewise, they were eliminated from the EFL Cup by Newcastle United and are ranked third in the Group A of the UEFA Champions League.

Thus, this article will talk about three Manchester United players who should be offloaded in January 2024.

3. Donny van de Beek

In the ranks of the Red Devils midfielders, the Dutch midfielder is one of the least choices that’s rarely picked to feature in the midfield. Van de Beek was signed from Ajax to Manchester United for €39 million in September 2020.

However, he has not been able to safeguard a spot in the team’s starting 11 in the last three years despite featuring under three managers at the club.

While his futile stint at Old Trafford could be associated with various injury miseries that affected his form and performance, van de Beek has only registered four goal contributions in 62 games for the Red Devils since joining the club.

Momentarily, midfielders such as Scott McTominay, Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen are ahead of him in the pecking order as he has only registered two appearances this season.

Hence, both the player’s camp and the club’s hierarchy could be looking for a possible solution for the Dutchman in the forthcoming transfer window. Moreover, his potential sale could also allow the club to sign other promising midfielders.

2. Antony

To bolster the right wing, the Red Devils board approved the signing of Antony from Ajax for €95 million in August 2022.

In the first half of last season, Antony was showing promise on the right flank. However, after the first half of the 2022-23 campaign, his performance degenerated as he struggled to pose any attacking threat on the right flank.

As the 2022-23 campaign was his first at Old Trafford, he was backed by the supporters. Some of the fans even insisted that he needed more time to settle down. However, in the current campaign, it looks as if he is getting worse as he has been unable to provide a goal or an assist in 11 games across all competitions.

Hence, it is fair to say that the Brazilian has not upgraded the right flank as expected. So, given his big-money transfer fee, the hierarchy should offload him and sign a winger who could fit the bill.

1. Jadon Sancho

One player whose relationship with Erik ten Hag has become sore in the last few months is Sancho, as he has also been exiled from the first-team squad.

Before he joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for €85 million in August 2021, Sancho was seen as a winger who would improve the quality of deliveries in the attack.

However, it is unfortunate that things have not gone as intended for the Englishman at Old Trafford, as he has failed to bolster the quality of the right wing.

But the primary reason for his feasible sale could be tied to his broken relationship with his manager. The proceeds from his potential sale could be used to finance the arrival of a fresh winger who would be willing to work with the current manager.
