During the Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton game, Spurs had a difficult day against the Toffees, as they failed to score yet again in the 2026/2027 Premier League season. The Spurs vs Everton game made it four matches in a row in which the Lilywhites were yet to find the back of the net, with players having been signed for a combined total of over £315 million.
To open their league campaign, they lost 3-0 vs Brentford, and also lost 2-0 vs Newcastle United. However, the North London club played out a draw against Nottingham Forest. Also, in Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton’s game, Spurs painfully yielded to a draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
To recall that in the 2026 summer transfer window, Spurs “broke their bank” and penned the signatures of a lot of players, more than they had ever done before. Amongst the notables to be included in the club’s approximately £320 million signings are Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth, Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, and Savinho from Manchester City, just to mention a few.
Despite making several attacking signings to boost the club’s attack in the hopes of seeing them compete for silverware this season, Tottenham keeps falling short of that aim. Unfortunately, in the Spurs vs Everton game, the team’s attack was nullified by Everton’s wall of defence.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton: An Average Display From Roberto De Zerbi’s Side
De Zerbi fielded a strong lineup, so it would seem on paper rather than in actual play. The starting XI consisted of Antonín Kinský as goalkeeper, Archie Gray, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Micky Van de Ven and Andrew Robertson as the back four, with Gray acting as the conservative full-back and Robertson fielded as the overlapping full-back. The holding pivot consisted of Rodrigo Bentancur and Sandro Tonali, both of whom attempted to provide the stability and control on the pitch.
Spurs vs Everton also saw Sávinho, Mateus Fernandes and Omar Marmoush playing in the pockets just behind the target man, Dominic Solanke. The match concluded with Tottenham having 62.4% possession, 78–37 final-third entries and 39–19 box touches. Although Tottenham enjoyed the majority of the possession in the Spurs vs Everton game, they failed to find the back of the net. This explains why they had an xG of 0.64, with only two shots on target, while Everton accrued a 1.11 xG.
Also, at half-time during the Spurs vs Everton clash, the North London club didn’t have a single shot on target. This also corresponds with the match stats in the team’s game against Nottingham Forest last week, where they also failed to locate the back of the net. Things aren’t looking great at the moment, as Tottenham have a lot of “difficult” league matches coming up next. Spurs will welcome Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, travel to Old Trafford to play against Manchester United, play Coventry City at home, and finally, make a trip to Stamford Bridge to hit it off with Chelsea in their next four league matches.

Extra Time Note
Tottenham still has a chance to make amends. The season is still at dawn, and Spurs might just begin to kick in sooner rather than later. Some players sustained injuries, including Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mykhaylo Mudryk, who was just signed from Chelsea, Dejan Kulusevski, James Madison, Pedro Porro, and Destiny Udogie.
It’s suggested that once Spurs have their squad in full, they could return to winning ways and compete for silverware. In any case, Spurs have a cup game against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup third round next, and unlike the Spurs vs Everton game, De Zerbi will be looking to set things straight this time.
