The start of the Hull City Premier League 2026/27 season sees them third in the league after four games. Still unbeaten and, until this weekend, the only team left with zero goals conceded, the Tigers have made the step up into the English top flight and have adapted very quickly to life in the Premier League.

After making the 2025/26 EFL Championship Play-Offs, after a dramatic final day victory against Norwich City, the Tigers faced Milwall in the semi-final. A 2-0 away win at The Den in the second leg ensured that Hull set up a final with Southampton; however, the Saints were dumped out of the Play-Offs due to ‘Spygate’ and were replaced by Middlesbrough.

At Wembley, an even 90 minutes saw the game go into added time. In the 95th minute, an Oli McBurnie winner saw the Tigers clinch promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 season. On their return, the Hull City Premier League campaign has got off to a flying start, with two wins and two draws.

Beating a giant like Manchester United on the opening day, and drawing with Chelsea in their last match, the Tigers have shown that their squad, which has a healthy mixture of experience and youth, can compete against some of the top teams in the Premier League.

Hull City Premier League 2026/27: The Experienced Core

The Tigers have managed to keep together their EFL Championship squad from last season, which has made a massive difference, with the squad full of players with experience in the Premier League.

Players like Semi Ajayi, John Egan, and Oli McBurnie make up the trio that have previously played in the top flight. Ajayi did so with West Bromwich Albion, whilst Egan and McBurnie played together at Sheffield United when the Blades experienced their phenomenal 2019/20 campaign, when they finished ninth after getting promoted.

This summer, they added more Premier League experience with goalkeeper Jack Butland, who is currently sidelined through injury, and Matt Targett, who joined the club as a free agent. They have the joint 10th oldest squad in the Premier League this season, but it was valuable for them to keep their experienced core, and with the addition of Butland and Targett, an inflated squad of 33 has some Premier League experience to keep them ticking in the right direction.

Hull City Premier League 2026:27: The Signings And Players Making A Difference

As said above, the Hull City Premier League 2026/27 squad is made up of 33 players, with the Tigers making 18 new signings ahead of their return to the top flight. Konstantinos Tzolakis, their new goalkeeper from Olympiacos, is tied with David Raya for the most clean sheets after four matches with three. Defender Nobel Mendy has slotted straight into the Tigers’ defence and scored in their opening day 2-0 win over Manchester United alongside defensive partner Ajayi.

Most of the players signed by Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic have been used to boost the squad depth, and this will give the Tigers the edge against squads like Everton, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and even reigning Premier League champions Arsenal, who all boast squads with fewer than 25 players.

However, this section would not be complete without the talismanic Mohamed Belloumi. With an average rating of 7.81, the 24-year-old single-handedly won Hull City a point against Chelsea, with his first-half brace putting the Tigers 2-1 ahead, before Joao Pedro’s goal just after the hour mark salvaged the Blues.

The Algerian right-winger has struggled with injury in the two seasons that he has spent with the Tigers so far. Missing over 50 games, Belloumi finally looks to be hitting top form and is proving to be a useful player for Jakirovic’s side, who look to keep up their good form to retain their spot in the Premier League come the end of the season.

Extra Time Note

The Hull City Premier League 2026/27 campaign has got off to a bang, with three clean sheets and only two goals conceded. When comparing them to other promoted clubs, the Hull City Premier League 2026/27 season has provided the biggest shock, especially after they were the side that were promoted via the Play-Offs.

However, with that being said, the Hull City Premier League 2026/27 campaign has seen them hold their own against big clubs like Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea. The Tigers’ next big test comes against Newcastle United, but if they can come out with a win or a draw from that fixture, then the Hull City Premier League season might turn out to be one of high expectations and see them avoid relegation.
