Wolves vs Manchester City Preview

In the best game of week 2 of the Premier League Wolves hosts Manchester City on Monday night. It will be Manchester City’s first game of the season after having a week off because of how far they advanced in the Champions League. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City’s top striker has been ruled out for this game.

Wolves vs Manchester City Preview

Wolves success

Wolves beat Manchester City twice last season and that proved it was no fluke. Raul Jimenez scored a goal in their 3-2 win. However, Adama Traore scored three goals in two games against Manchester City last season. However, City were very shaky last season and if they want to fight for the title, they will have to once again become consistent in every game.

Manchester City

With the acquisition of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake City should see some improvement. They desperately needed a centre back and got it with Ake. But I still think they need another centre back and really wanted Kalidou Koulibaly. The problem last season vs Wolves was they conceded five goals. They got shut out in the first game and blew a two goal lead in the 2nd game. Without Aguero in this upcoming game someone else will need to step up. Raheem Sterling is the most likely to score two goals vs Wolves. As great as Kevin De Bruyne is he is reliant on his teammates to finish his passes. He could be the player of the game if he gets a few assists and a penalty kick. Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez also need to have a big impact on the game. Somehow they need to contain Traore. Ake needs to defend him well and not let him get any opportunities.

Prediction

In the last four games these two teams have played Manchester City has only won once. The games have typically been low scoring the exception being the 3-2 Wolves win. I would expect a low scoring game. I give Wolves a 2-1 win because Aguero and Aymeric Laporte are ruled out. Laporte is City’s best defender and Aguero is their best striker. Them being out will be very impactful.
