Tottenham vs Chelsea 0-1: Spurs Form Product of Average Performance From Tottenham Attackers

Tottenham Hotspur’s form is a bit wobbly at the moment. They lost 0-1 in the Tottenham vs Chelsea game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, November 1. As a result, Spurs have obtained only seven points in their last five Premier League matches, having collected 10 from their first five.

Tottenham vs Chelsea 0-1 Loss Latest in Drop of Form

The honeymoon period that Thomas Frank was enjoying after being appointed at the start of the season seems to be over. Tottenham are in sixth position in the league table now with 17 points from 10 matches after having started really well at the beginning of the season.

It is pretty clear that Tottenham’s form cannot be improved by playing average football. Their attacking players need to score goals more often if they are to seriously challenge for the title.

After 16 matches in the ongoing season, Micky van de Ven, Tottenham’s centre-back, is their highest goal-scorer with five goals to his credit.

Tottenham Attackers Need To Give More

Van de Ven has utilised his aerial ability to score most of those goals, but it is not a good advertisement for the Tottenham attackers that a defender is their top scorer after a quarter of the season is over.

Richarlison and Brennan Johnson are next on the list with three goals each. Richarlison has also registered two assists, but his tally of 23 goals in 106 matches for Tottenham is not worthy of a good forward.

The Spurs have been missing midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski because of injuries, which has affected their performance quite a bit. Dominic Solanke has also had injury issues and has played in only three matches this season so far.

However, Mohammed Kudus, their new signing, has only scored a solitary goal in 15 matches so far. Kudus, however, has four assists to his credit for his new club. Joao Palhinha, another new signing who made a really good start to the season, has somewhat fizzled out and has three goals and an assist for the Spurs in 16 matches.

All of the above shows that most of the Tottenham attackers have come up with average performances only, which is naturally not enough for them to be in the reckoning to win the title.

Tottenham have quite pacey forwards, but somehow their finishing abilities leave a lot to be desired. They have still been able to score a lot of goals, mainly thanks to their defensive players, but that is not what the coach would expect from his team.

Despite the recent Tottenham vs Chelsea 0-1 loss, Tottenham’s form is still good enough to vie for a place in European competition next season, which should be their minimum target. However, if they are to be in contention to win the league title, they will have to raise their performance by a notch or two.

In such a scenario, it remains to be seen whether Spurs’ forwards will be able to raise their game. They play Manchester United in the Premier League next weekend, which should be a stiff test for the North Londoners.
