Bayern Munich vs Sporting 3-1: Red-Hot Bayern Munich Form Continues To Impress

Red-hot Bayern Munich form continued as the Bavarians won the Bayern Munich vs Sporting Lisbon game 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, December 9. Bayern are now second in the standings behind Arsenal, who are yet to play their Matchday 6 UCL game.

Bayern had beaten VfB Stuttgart 5-0 in their previous match in the Bundesliga last weekend. They are comfortably at the top of the Bundesliga table. Vincent Kompany’s men thus continue to exhibit exceptional form across all competitions.

Bayern Munich Form – Contenders for the Champions League Title?

Current Bayern Munich form makes them solid contenders for the biggest title in European football. Bayern last won the title in 2020 under Hansi Flick. The Bavarians were trailing by a goal against Sporting Lisbon until the 65th minute, when Serge Gnabry equalised.

Lennart Karl and Jonathan Tah then scored in quick succession to ensure victory for the German giants in the Bayern Munich vs Lisbon fixture. Bayern’s crossing was exceptional, as Gnabry was the recipient of exceptional aerial balls for two of Bayern’s goals.

Joshua Kimmich was once again a standout in terms of playing crosses into the box. Karl, the 17-year-old football prodigy, showed an exceptional first touch to score Bayern’s second goal. Karl now has scored three goals in four Champions League matches this season.

Bayern’s pressing was intense in the final third, and they threw players into the opposition half in pursuit of an equaliser. However, it was their ability to send in inch-perfect crosses that enabled them to score three goals in less than 15 minutes to win the match.

What’s Next?

The Bayern Munich form threatens to continue in the Champions League, as they are scheduled to face Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV Eindhoven in January in their next two matches. One of those matches will be at their home at Allianz Arena, where Bayern are unbeaten in the last 37 matches.

That is an incredible record and underlines the extent of the current Bayern Munich form. Kompany won the Bundesliga title with the Bavarians last season, but it is the Champions League title that will separate him from the lesser mortals. In this regard, it has to be remembered that Kompany won multiple Premier League titles as a player, but never won the Champions League title.

Bayern have a healthy eight-point lead over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga table after 13 rounds of matches. Bayern have won 12 of their 13 matches in the German top division so far. Hence, winning the Bundesliga title might not be that big a challenge for them in that scenario.

With young talents like Karl in the squad and the recent return of Alphonso Davies from injury, Bayern are bound to be encouraged. Jamal Musiala might also make a comeback from injury in the near future, thus making the Bavarians even more formidable.

With Harry Kane among the goals and Gnabry and Michael Olise performing, Bayern have one of the best teams in Europe. The Bayern Munich form is ominous for other teams but it remains to be seen whether they can win their seventh Champions League title this time around. Kompany and the Bayern supporters will definitely hope so.
