The Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round fixtures were played over the weekend, as we witnessed yet another FA Cup upset.
After Macclesfield upset FA Cup holders Crystal Palace in the Third Round of the competition, there was room for more giant-killings as 10 EFL sides faced Premier League opposition in the Fourth Round of the competition.
With Premier League teams still going strong in the oldest-ever cup competition, let’s see how these sides got on in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round.
FA Cup Fourth Round Review: Hull City 0-4 Chelsea: Comfortable Away Win For The Blues
To begin the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round weekend, Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea travelled to Hull City’s MKM Stadium.
The Blues boss did not underestimate his opponents and named a strong line-up that would guarantee progression to the next round of the competition.
It took Chelsea until the 40th minute to get the breakthrough as Liam Delap set up Pedro Neto for the Portuguese winger to put the visitors 1-0 in front.
Chelsea’s number seven added a second six minutes into the second half as Delap turned provider once more, as he set up Estevao, who netted the Blues’ third.
Rosenior’s side completed the scoring in the 71st minute, as once again, Delap assisted Neto, who completed his hat-trick, and Chelsea ran out 4-0 victors.
Burton Albion 0-1 West Ham United (After Extra Time): Hammers Needed Extra Time To Progress Through To The Fifth Round
In the lunchtime Saturday Emirates FA Cup kick-off, West Ham travelled to Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium for their clash with the Brewers in the Fourth Round.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side came into this clash with a lot of confidence behind them after closing the gap down to three points in their bid for Premier League safety.
Similarly to the Hammers, Burton occupy a relegation spot in their respective league as the Brewers are just a point adrift of safety in League One.
In a game of two halves, the sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes, with extra time needed to settle the tie.
Substitute Crysencio Summerville scored five minutes into the first half of extra time as West Ham held on for the remainder of the extra time, even after going down to 10 men after Freddie Potts was sent off with a straight red card in the 101st minute.
Burnley 1-2 Mansfield Town: League One Mansfield Town Upset Premier League Burnley
For the first time since the 2007/08 season, Mansfield Town made it through to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup, looking to reach the Fifth Round proper for the first time in over 50 years.
The task at hand was not an easy one, however, as Premier League side Burnley, playing in front of their home crowd at Turf Moor, looked to dump the third-tier side out of the competition.
The Clarets were the dominant force throughout the whole game and created numerous chances.
They finally made the Stags pay in the 21st minute as Lyle Foster slipped Josh Laurent in, who sat Mansfield Town goalkeeper Liam Roberts down and slotted the ball into an empty net.
In the second half, the visitors came out with a newfound belief and equalised brilliantly as Kyle Knoyle’s cross was headed home by Rhys Oates at the back stick.
With time running out, Stags won a free-kick just outside the Burnley box. Mansfield Town captain Louis Reed stepped over it and thundered a fantastic effort over the wall and into the back of the net.
Nigel Clough’s side ran out 2-1 victors and continued their fairytale run in the FA Cup after downing a Premier League outfit.

Manchester City 2-0 Salford City: Citizens Into The Next Round But Slightly Unconvincingly
After hitting Exeter City for 10 in the Third Round, Manchester City welcomed another EFL outfit to the Etihad Stadium as League Two’s Salford City looked for a giant-killing against a fellow Manchester-based side.
In a largely uneventful first half, it would be the Citizens who held a 1-0 lead at the break. Alfie Dorrington’s own goal in the sixth minute was the difference between the two sides as City failed to have a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
Pep Guardiola’s side piled on the pressure in the second half, but the Ammies held strong and kept the scoreline unchanged until the final 10 minutes of the match.
After a spell of sustained pressure, City finally found their second in the 81st minute as new boy Marc Guehi found the net and handed the hosts a 2-0 win.
Less routine than their win in the previous round, but Manchester City were still able to get the job done, keep a clean sheet and progress into the Fifth Round.
Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle United: Geordies Come From Behind To Stun The Villains
One of only two all-Premier League ties in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round saw Aston Villa welcome Newcastle to Villa Park, as Villa Academy graduate Jacob Ramsey returned to face his former side.
It didn’t take the Villains long to get in front in the tie as Tammy Abraham found the back of the net in the 14th minute.
However, a moment of madness from Villa shot-stopper Marco Bizot saw the hosts reduced to 10 men after he was shown a red card for a reckless tackle on Jacob Murphy.
Just after the hour mark, the score was level as Sandro Tonali netted his first goal of the season, and then added a second to put Newcastle 2-1 in front in the 76th minute.
Nick Woltemade scored his first goal of 2026 with two minutes to go as the Magpies progressed through to the next round with a 3-1 win.
Liverpool 3-0 Brighton & Hove Albion: Reds Easily March Past The Seagulls
In the late Saturday night kick-off in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round, Liverpool hosted Brighton in the second all-Premier League tie.
It was Arne Slot’s side that took the lead just before half-time as Milos Kerkez assisted Curtis Jones with the midfielder putting Liverpool 1-0 up to the good.
Dominik Szoboszlai, who was allowed to feature in this competition after his straight red against Manchester City in the Premier League, doubled the Reds’ lead as the hosts looked to put the tie out of Brighton’s reach.
This exactly happened with 20 minutes to go, as Mohamed Salah converted his penalty to earn Liverpool a routine 3-0 win.
After their up-and-down season so far, the Reds will hope to continue their run in the FA Cup to regain some sort of form and momentum ahead of an important Premier League run-in.
