Tottenham Hotspur’s Relegation Threat Looms Large As Spurs’ Winless Run Continues

Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation threats are huge warning signs now as Spurs suffered yet another defeat, keeping them in 16th in the Premier League table.

They have now lost all three matches under new manager Igor Tudor, and have been dragged into the Premier League relegation battle.

Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation chances are definitely not out of question now as they have lost their last five Premier League matches.

For a team that is considered a “big-six” side, this run of form has been nothing short of dismal.

Spurs have only earned 29 points from 29 matches and have suffered 14 defeats in the Premier League this season.

They endured 22 defeats last season and are on their way towards getting near that number once again.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Relegation Threat: No Standout Performers

No Tottenham Hotspur player has managed to reach double digits in terms of the number of goals this season. Richarlison leads the pack with nine goals, while Micky van de Ven, a defender, has seven.

Tottenham have scored 39 goals and conceded 46 goals so far, which gives them a goal difference of minus seven.

However, given the fact that Nottingham Forest and West Ham, their nearest rivals, are on goal differences of minus 15 and minus 19 respectively, Spurs are relatively safe as far as that aspect is concerned.

Spurs have had massive injury problems this season. Both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have been injured for a long while and it has definitely hurt them. They have also parted ways with Brennan Johnson, which does not seem to have been a correct decision either.

Players like Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons have failed completely in justifying their signings. The two forwards have scored only six goals between them and are likely to be labelled as massive flops in a hugely underwhelming Tottenham Hotspur side.

In addition to the injury problems and the summer signings being lacklustre, both Cristian Romero and Van de Ven have had disciplinary issues, getting sent off at times, and thereby jeopardizing the team’s chances further.

Thus, Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation threat has become a serious issue.

At the moment, Spurs have 29 points, while Nottingham Forest and West Ham, who are just below them, have amassed 28 points. Two of those three clubs will stay afloat in the Premier League, while the other is almost surely doomed for relegation.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Relegation Threat: Spurs Still Fighting In The UEFA Champions League

Whilst West Ham is without European football, both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur have to contend with midweek European clashes as Spurs face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, whilst Nottingham Forest face FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League.

Sandwiched between the two-legged Round of 16 tie, Spurs will take on Liverpool in the Premier League and then get into a direct face-off with Nottingham Forest at the end of March.

If either of the two teams manage to win in that match, it will give them a major boost in their bid to avoid relegation in the Premier League relegation battle.

Spurs will seriously hope that they are the team that picks up the points in that six-pointer because, if they continue to drop points, Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation chances will increase.

Their chances of getting points from the Liverpool match are really slim and hence, by the time they face Nottingham Forest, they might be in an even more desperate situation.

Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation threat will keep haunting them for the next few weeks at least.
