FC Barcelona have approached Rodri’s entourage and are trying to bring the Spaniard to Camp Nou. According to recent reports, the Rodri Barcelona transfer story is progressing well, with personal terms already agreed between the two parties. Now, Rodri is awaiting Barcelona to reach an agreement with Manchester City. Multiple sources report Barcelona are preparing to submit an initial bid of €50 million for the Cityzens midfielder.

Rodri Barcelona Transfer Reports: Barcelona Snap Up A Golden Opportunity

The Rodri Barcelona transfer reports have been emerging for the past few weeks, but they gained a lot of momentum yesterday afternoon. Until then, Real Madrid were quite ahead in the race to sign the Spain national team captain, but as soon as Barca saw a hint of opportunity in this transfer, they went all in and convinced Rodri to join the Catalan club.

Rodri’s Impressive World Cup Campaign

Reports suggest that the Rodri Barcelona transfer could go through in the upcoming days. The 30-year-old midfielder arrives at the Camp Nou after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Rodri had a great World Cup campaign and won the Golden Ball. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was the player with the most completed passes on the pitch (756) and in the final third (204), alongside the most tackles won (26).

Rodri: One Of The Best Midfielders In The Premier League Last Season

Rodri played the majority of last season in the Premier League with injury issues. He suffered a hamstring injury before the start of the season and then faced groin issues during the campaign. Still, he was one of the best defensive midfielders in the league.  Last season, in the Premier League, Rodri had a pass completion ratio of 90.33% that put him in the 94th percentile among midfielders. Similarly, in defence, Rodri had 2.44 tackles and 6.66 ground duels won per 90, which ranked him above 86 and 93% of midfielders in the English top division.

Midfield Worries At The Camp Nou

FC Barcelona are having some concerns in the midfield. Pedri feels exhausted, as he is the midfielder who has played the most minutes under Hansi Flick. His fatigue was quite visible at the end of last season and in the World Cup as well. Frenkie de Jong is facing a knee injury and will probably be out for some time.

Gavi and Marc Bernal are also recovering from injuries, as they both were hit with ACL injuries in the last two seasons. The remaining option of Marc Casado does not enjoy the same level of Flick’s trust that he once had when the German manager arrived. Under these circumstances, the arrival of Rodri provides Barcelona with an experienced alternative in midfield.

What Solutions Does The Rodri Barcelona Transfer Provide?

Rodri improves Barcelona’s midfield immensely and provides balance in the middle. His biggest qualities as a defensive midfielder are his ability to dominate possession, recycle the ball efficiently, press intelligently, and win duels that many of his counterparts would consider lost even before the contest starts. Barcelona have missed such a profile ever since the departure of Sergio Busquets in 2023, and Rodri can fill those gaps really well.

Rodri’s Downside: The Injury Woes

Rodri’s biggest problem is his recurring injury problems, especially in the right knee. On September 22, 2024, he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture to his right knee, and as a result, he missed eight months of footballing action.  Then, in the 2025/26 season, he suffered various issues with his groin, hamstring, and right knee from time to time and only started 17 league games. Currently, he is also suffering from a back injury and is expected to be out for at least the start of the upcoming season.

How Can Flick Get The Maximum Out Of The Rodri Barcelona Transfer?

It is paramount for Barca to utilise Rodri accordingly and be cautious about his injury problems, as the Blaugrana have to manage his minutes carefully. They have the midfield depth to rotate Rodri continuously and not overuse him.  The Rodri Barcelona transfer uplifts the overall quality of Barcelona’s midfield without a doubt, as he provides the much-needed defensive balance. Barcelona should manage his game time to prevent injuries from resurfacing because this transfer has the potential to take Barcelona one step further and provide them with what they have been missing for years.
