The Manchester United vs Manchester City clash ended in a 1-0 win for the Cityzens at Old Trafford on Sunday, September 13. Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the match, as the Cityzens had to play more than 70 minutes with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off. It was again a demonstration of Manchester City’s grit after they won their first match against Bournemouth, bouncing back from a one-goal deficit.

After their victory in the Manchester United vs Manchester City match, the Cityzens maintained their perfect record this season so far. They have played in four Premier League matches and have won all four of them.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: The Cityzens Showed Rare Resolve

Manchester United were supposed to defend deep and go into sporadic counter-attacks in the Manchester United vs Manchester City match. However, the red card shown to Foden changed the equations of the match. The tables were turned as Manchester City had to defend more often and Manchester United were the more attacking side with a one-man advantage. However, the tendency to play long, diagonal passes to a tireless Antoine Semenyo on the left flank was Manchester City’s go-to strategy.

That strategy worked wonders, as it was Semenyo’s cross from the left flank that led to Manchester City’s goal. It was Haaland’s sixth goal of the season in as many matches, and the Norwegian now has 168 goals in a Manchester City shirt. Haaland’s hold-up play also came to the fore in the match, and he did a good job of shielding it from the Manchester United players and thereby taking time away from the home side. However, it was not only the attacking players that did the trick for the visitors, and their defenders did an equally nice job.

Marc Guehi and Matheus Nunes did really well to combine to stop Manchester United’s attacks through the inside-left channel, mainly courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ through passes and Marcus Rashford’s runs. Guehi had a wonderful match, as did Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez in the midfield.

Fernandez worked his socks off in the Manchester United vs Manchester City match, going into attack again and again and then falling back subsequently. It was another solid performance from the Argentine for his new club, and Anderson showed why he was a priority signing for the Cityzens in the transfer window.

Extra Time Note

The Manchester City win in the Manchester United vs Manchester City match kept the pressure on Arsenal, who have also won each of their four matches so far. Enzo Maresca’s men showed the resolve and grit that is the hallmark of a champion side on Sunday.

The Cityzens will play against Sunderland next and should be able to get three points from that match at home. It is shaping up to be a two-horse race for the Premier League title between Arsenal and Manchester City, and the Cityzens cannot afford to allow the Gunners an early advantage in the points table.

The win in the Manchester United vs Manchester City match will boost the Cityzens’ confidence. As of now, they remain very much in contention to win their seventh league title in nine seasons.
