Ansu Fati Signs New Barcelona Contract as Long Term Deal Agreed

Putting every transfer rumour to rest, Ansu Fati has signed the new contract that will tie him to Barcelona until 2027. The deal was confirmed right after Barcelona earned their first win in this Champions League season on October 20th.

The renewal of the Spanish teenager’s contract has been of paramount importance for the club that were the victim of bad news for months. The teenage sensation has been dubbed as the next Messiah for Barcelona and after failing to secure Lionel Messi’s future, Fati’s renewal had become their topmost priority.

Barcelona took their time over the contract renewal despite knowing that the player was in the final year of his contract. They were cautious as losing another gem would not have been bearable in the situation they are currently in. Following the footsteps of Pedri’s contract that was renewed last week, Barcelona have also inserted a €1 billion release clause in his contract.

New Contract Comes With High Expectations

It should not be forgotten that Ansu Fati is just 18-years-old and how special he is if he is considered the backbone of the club. On top of that he has been handed the number 10 shirt which was of course worn by the club legend Lionel Messi.

Ansu Fati is a product of the Catalans’ academy. He earned his promotion to the first team at the age of 16 years and 298 days, making him the second-youngest Barcelona debutant. A week after that, he became the youngest scorer for Barcelona and the following match saw him become the youngest player in the history of La Liga to register a goal and an assist in one match.

This was only the tip of the iceberg for records that the Bissau-born player had started breaking. He made his Champions League debut against Borussia Dortmund, becoming the youngest from the club to do so but what created headlines was when he scored his first in the competition. With the goal against Inter Milan, he became the youngest ever player to score in Champions League history.

He also holds the mantle for the youngest player to score a brace in La Liga. Fati had scored 15 goals in 48 appearances since his debut, an astonishing statistic for a player of his age, before getting sidelined for almost a year. He marked his return from injury last month and has added two more goals since.

Ansu Fati’s New Deal Signals a New Era

The youngster has been bestowed with the hope of resurrecting the Barcelona team that has been collapsing. It has been Lionel Messi for the past 15 years and Fati could be the player to kick start the beginning of a new era.

The Argentinian’s departure showed how dependant they were on a single player and the club has been accumulating unwanted records this season. A disappointing start has seen them slip to seventh in the league, five points behind the top. It has also been hugely disappointing in the Champions League for the Catalan giants.

They lost their opening two fixtures for the first time since 1997 and without a single shot on target or a point, they were sitting at the bottom of the table before the win on October 20th when they beat Dynamo Kyiv with a solitary goal.

This win has given them hope to which they can now aspire and maintain in a bid to qualify for the next stage. The return of Ansu Fati will play a huge role in Barcelona’s hope to build on this upturn in fortunes.
