Aston Villa vs Chelsea Match Preview

Chelsea visits Aston Villa in the highlight game of this Saturday’s Premier League fixture. Two teams that are right in the fight for European spots next season.

Chelsea travel to Villa Park hoping to bounce back after an embarrassing 5-0 defeat against Arsenal in Tuesday’s London Derby. From the first minute at the Emirates it seemed like there was only one team on the pitch in a performance that left a lot to say by Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Argentinian coach is currently facing a lot of pressure regarding his future at Chelsea due to the substantial investments made by the new management. Besides the tough moment, he backed his players character and marked inconsistency as the main issue of the season partially due to the process the club is on.

“No, not let down. There are too many details and circumstances for why this happened. The club is building and that is always a risk you take when you are building a squad. When we have bad days, we are so bad. But when we have good days, we are capable of everything.”

The Blues still have a good chance of qualifying to Europe next season, but they need to recover fast in order to not loose ground to Manchester United and Newcastle. They will face a tough fixture with Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brighton but crucially so will their rivals giving them hope of not facing back to back seasons without European football.

Aston Villa is currently in fourth spot six points over Tottenham, whom has two less games played. Besides trying to secure the Champions League spot for next season they will face Olympiakos on the week for the Europa Conference League semifinals.

As a result of the great results this season, the club has recently announced the contract renewal of manager Unai Emery. The Spanish manager is set to stay at Aston Villa until the summer of 2027 committing to a long-term project.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction

Draw at 3.40

The Villains arrive to the game in a much better position with a run of five consecutive games without defeat. Villa Park has been a fortress for the team this season where they have managed to win 12 out of the 17 games.

As for Chelsea, they have struggled away from home this season, with their last win being the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace back in February. However, this season Chelsea has already visited Birmingham a FA Cup replay, taking a 3-1 win. Thus, do not be quick to count them out of this match.

Both teams have provided over 2.5 goals in their last few games, Aston Villa in five of the last six, and Chelsea in nine of their last ten. Chelsea will likely have Cole Palmer back for the game who has been the leading man in the attacking front scoring 20 Premier league goals this season.
