Bruno Fernandes Breaks Premier League Record With Assist Against Everton

His 50th goal contribution in the Premier League means that Bruno Fernandes breaks Premier League Record when he assisted Anthony Martial with the first goal of the match against Everton on Saturday 2nd October.

Fernandes has never failed to step up for Manchester United and has been undoubtedly the backbone of the team. Despite being a midfielder, he boosted his ability by becoming the club’s top scorer last season and competing for the golden boot alongside fearsome strikers in the process.

He joined the club in the winter transfer during the 2019/20 season and the midfielder was an instant hit as he went on to win back to back Premier League player of the month awards. By the end of 2020, he became the only player to win the award four times.

Bruno Fernandes Breaks Premier League Record But is Overshadowed by Poor Result

Manchester United’s Sloppy Performance Cost Them Win Against Everton

Just when we thought United were back on track, another disappointing display has put them further behind the favourites. They recorded a last-minute win against Villarreal to wash away their poor form prior to that. However, it was only a temporary one as they failed to win the match against Everton.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made five changes to the side that had faced Villarreal. The United bench was star-studded as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho were rested. Anthony Martial had got a rare start and Edinson Cavani led the line.

Both sides had plenty of chances that were saved by the respective goalkeepers. However, it was United that drew the first blood. An assist from Bruno Fernandes was perfectly finished by an unlikely player in Martial. In the second half, Solskjaer made two early changes bringing on Sancho and Ronaldo.

There was a huge difference in the attacking threat produced by the home side. However, Everton produced a brilliant counter to score the equalizer. All the work was done by Demarai Gray as he brushed off Fred twice before giving it to Abdoulaye Doucoure. He then slid the ball through two players to Andros Townsend who took his time and place his shot precisely.

From that point, United struggled to test Jordan Pickford, despite the firepower they had. They found it difficult to take a shot as Everton had started sitting deep. And they were rewarded accordingly as the Toffees earned a deserving point. Solskjaer will have a tough job ahead of him as the next 10 fixtures could potentially decide his future.

Bruno Fernandes Joins an Elite Group With His Record

Despite the inconsistent performances by the team, Bruno Fernandes has not compromised his form by a bit. And because of that, he created another history on the night. With his assist against Everton, he reached 50 goal contributions in 58 games in the Premier League. In doing so, he also became the fastest midfielder to achieve this milestone.

Out of the 50, 30 were scored by him and the 20 were assisted to his teammates. Overall, he has become the fourth-fastest player to reach the milestone. Only Andy Cole (43), Eric Cantona (54) and Alan Shearer (54) have reached 50 combined goals and assist in fewer Premier League matches.

Since joining United, Bruno Fernandes has played 90 matches and has made 72 goal contributions across all competitions. This season, he started with his first hattrick as a Red and has scored four goals so far, assisting three in the process.
