Will Jadon Sancho join Manchester United?

The biggest question of the summer has been if Sancho is going to joining Manchester United or not. The news about the transfer made headlines for the first time during the summer of 2019. A 100 million pound price was put in place to ward off any interest for the then 19-year old forward. The transfer has been a saga all over the summer this year, leaving Manchester United frustrated with the current status quo surrounding their topmost priority of the summer. With the clock ticking very fast, will Jadon Sancho join Manchester United this summer? And what will the implications be if Sancho doesn’t join Manchester United? Let’s find out.

Will Sancho join Manchester United?

The ultimate priority –

When the news about Jadon Sancho hit the headlines earlier this summer. The confidence around Old Trafford was strong enough to suggest a deal could be struck with the German club for the highly-rated Englishman. As per some very reliable reports and journalists, the personal terms were agreed very early in the transfer window. The biggest impediment in the deal has always been the huge price tag worth 120 million euros. The pandemic has further exacerbated the problem with the club having to fork out a large sum while keeping up with the dreadful effects of the pandemic.

Why Sancho?

His glistening stats don’t tell the whole tale as the former Manchester City man is more than any other average world-class right-winger. Aside from being able to play on either flank, he possesses the attitude and the work ethic that should make him a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side. A player of his age should form part of the front-three at Old Trafford for a long time.

What’s taking so long?

It’s a match made in heaven as both parties had agreed to the deal at the earlier stages of the window, but its the transfer fee that has always been the obstacle. Due to various reports, the German giants are very hard to negotiate with. The Red Devils presumed that they had an advantage in the market due to the financial distress caused by the ongoing pandemic. But contrary to their expectations, Dortmund stood firm on their 120 million euro valuation for one of their most precious assets.

Are United going to give up?

After having been told to pay the amount in full, the 13-time premier league winners have continued their pursuit of the player. Manchester United’s persistence is a result of years of mismanagement which saw them sign alternatives instead of pursuing their top priority target ruthlessly. The new transfer model, although a good model, is a strategy that should be implemented by a competent set of staff that Manchester United still lack. In short, Manchester United’s transfer failures have always been down to a poor strategy and lack of competency. Now, the poor strategy has been replaced with a proper strategy but what remains is the lack of competency.

What if Sancho doesn’t join?

The ramifications of Sancho not joining could be another season without a right-winger. This also paves the way for a major transfer battle when all clubs find their feet again next summer. The lack of squad depth could increase the game time afforded to the players in the starting eleven, which is both good and bad as it could adversely affect their fitness levels.

What next?

It’s almost certain now that any deal involving the extremely talented forward has to wait for at least another summer. This is provided the Manchester club don’t pull off a miracle in the final few days of the transfer window. The likelihood of an alternate signing looks very slim. But with that said, you can never predict what could further unfold in what has been already been a highly unusual and unprecedented transfer market for clubs.
