The Bruno Fernandes form has been one of the concerning negatives around Manchester United amid their poor form at the start of the 2026/27 season, where they have only been able to win two of their nine competitive matches.

The Red Devils’ damning defeat to Atletico Madrid in the 2026/27  UEFA Champions League stretched their winless run to five games, and the Bruno Fernandes form in those matches has not at all impressed.

Fernandes has only been able to get goal involvements in two of the Red Devils’ nine matches in the 2026/27 campaign, which are also ironically the only ones they’ve won against Ipswich Town and Sabah FK. The Bruno Fernandes form being so disappointing is having a direct and pretty big impact on Manchester United’s performances because of their reliance on the Portuguese midfielder.

The Bruno Fernandes form definitely needs to improve for the Red Devils to get back to winning ways and ease some of the pressure on under-fire boss Michael Carrick.

How Does the Bruno Fernandes Form Improve?

The Bruno Fernandes form has lacked any sort of consistency in the 2026/27 season, a far cry from how the Portuguese midfielder actually performed in the impressive 2025/26 campaign for his side. Indeed, this is the same player who broke the record for most assists in a single Premier League season last time out and played a key role in ensuring that the Red Devils secured a third-place finish in the league as well.

He has only managed four goals and one assist in his nine appearances, out of which four goal involvements came in the win over Ipswich. The Bruno Fernandes form has dipped significantly from the end of the 2025/26 season, when he scored in the final-day win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Fernandes is facing a number of troubles, not being able to create as many major chances as he did last season. He is not even able to get into the danger zones as frequently as before, being neutralised by tight marking from opposition players and struggling to connect with his teammates in the right positions.

For the Bruno Fernandes form to improve, the Portuguese midfielder needs to stop trying to do everything in helping with the attacking build-up for his side. He needs to stick to his strengths, which include making clever passes into the final third and sending in inviting crosses from outside the penalty area as well.

Moreover, Fernandes needs to work on improving his delivery from set-piece scenarios to set up bigger chances from those situations for the Red Devils to help them start firing on all cylinders.

What Can Manchester United Teammates To Improve Bruno Fernandes Form?

The Bruno Fernandes form is also partly because the Red Devils’ players are not able to do all that much to uplift the spirits of their skipper.

Manchester United’s midfielders need to step up to stop Fernandes from feeling that he needs to do everything himself in the midfield to help with creating chances. The new signings like Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba need to be much more proactive in the midfield, taking responsibility for moving the ball forward from deeper positions to allow the Portuguese midfielder more freedom to roam into the danger pockets in the final third.

Fernandes can look to take more risks in making clever late runs into the penalty area to get at the end of more chances if some of the creative burden on him is taken away from him. In such a case, Bruno can play with increased confidence to try out new stuff with his final product if he knows that there are others to back him up in trouble in matches.

The Bruno Fernandes form really needs improvement for the Red Devils to start producing thrilling performances and get back to winning ways soon.

Extra Time Notes

The Bruno Fernandes form has disappointingly dipped in Manchester United’s five-match winless run towards the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign. Fernandes is just not able to make goal contributions with the same swagger he did in the 2025/26 season, and has attracted criticism for failing to be the same kind of influence.

Fernandes has a lot of responsibilities on him as the Manchester United captain, but he needs backing up from those around him to start excelling for the Red Devils. The Bruno Fernandes form can only improve if he’s given more freedom to explore opportunities in the attacking third, which includes getting into more goal-scoring areas without worrying about his defensive work.

If he can do that, then the Bruno Fernandes form should start prospering and he can have a positive influence in his side’s results as well.
