Either of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino Could Be Affected by Luis Diaz’s Signing

Premier League club Liverpool made a ‘swoop’ and completed Luis Diaz’s signing in the January transfer window. The 25-year old has been an exciting player to watch and his career at Porto was nothing short of amazing, as he scored 41 goals in 125 appearances, helping them win the Primeira Liga in 2019/20, as well as the Taca de Portugal that same season. He is now in England and hopefully, the Premier League will witness a fair share of his talent in the coming days.

Luis Diaz’s Signing Could Affect Liverpool’s Front Three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Liverpool Could Develop Another Formidable Attacking Trio

However, his arrival at Anfield could affect either of Liverpool’s attacking trio comprising Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Firmino joined from Hoffenheim in 2015, Mane joined from Southampton in 2016 while Salah joined from Roma in 2017. These three players have been very reliable ever since and their output has been downright impressive, as they have each scored over 90 goals for the club in all competitions. They each scored ten goals in the UEFA Champions League in the 2017/18 season, setting a record as the only three players from the same team to have scored ten or more goals in the same UEFA Champions League season.

Liverpool’s other attacking options in Diogo Jota, Divorck Origi and Takumi Minamino have not been disappointing, as they have stepped up so perfectly that the absence of Salah and Mane, who both travelled to Cameroon for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, was not greatly felt, since Liverpool won four games and drew one in that period, scoring 12 goals in the process. They are all aged 27 or below and could still have a long-term future at the club. Meanwhile, Firmino is 30 while Mane and Salah will both turn 30 before July 2022. With the addition of Dias to the squad, things might just take a different turn and perhaps Liverpool will develop another formidable attacking trio in the near future.
