As we approach Fantasy Football Matchweek 33 of the Premier League, scheduled from Saturday, April 18, to Wednesday, April 22, it’s essential for FPL managers to strategise effectively to maximise their points.

Injury and Suspension Updates to Note

During Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to PSG in the UEFA Champions League, Hugo Ekitike ruptured his Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of Liverpool’s season as well as the World Cup with France.

Also out with an Achilles injury (persistent) is Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, who hasn’t featured since the Gunners’ Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City before the international break. Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber are still out as well.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is, however, positive about Noni Madueke being fit enough to feature this weekend.

Enzo Fernandez missed Chelsea’s fixtures against Port Vale and Man City, as he was serving a two-match ban after vaguely speaking about his future at Chelsea while on international duty with Argentina. After speaking to head coach Liam Rosenior, who handed out the ban, and his teammates though, Fernandez will be available for selection against Manchester United.

Lisandro Martinez will miss Saturday’s big match against Chelsea through suspension. The Manchester United left-back received a red card during their 2-1 loss to Leeds on Monday, April 13. Kobbie Mainoo has a knock, which kept him out against Leeds, and may keep him out against the Blues. Also out for Michael Carrick’s men is Harry Maguire, who is serving a suspension until April 27.

Best Chips for Double Gameweek 33

It’s the biggest Double Gameweek of the season, so selecting your FPL squad this week should either be a headache or blissful – it will surely be a headache for me.

Six clubs – AFC Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley, Chelsea, Leeds United and Manchester City – will be playing twice, spoiling Fantasy Football managers for choice. Keep in mind, though, that these same six clubs will have a ‘Blank Gameweek 34’ as they do not play next weekend.

If you used the Wild Card chip in Gameweek 32, the best chip to use for Double Gameweek 33 is the Bench Boost. You can then use the Free Hit chip, if it’s still available to you, in Gameweek 34, which changes your team for one Gameweek only – you can remove the players without a Gameweek 34 fixture.

Another option is to use the Free Hit chip in Double Gameweek 33, bringing in players you only need for this weekend, without letting go of the players you already own that will not be impacted by the Blank Gameweek.

You can either choose to use your Triple Captain chip this weekend, or save it for Gameweek 36 when Man City will face Crystal Palace and Brentford in the same Gameweek.

    Must-Have FPL Picks

Picking players who will have two fixtures this weekend is the way to go, and if you already own some of those players, then you’re in a good position.

Bournemouth travel to St. James’ Park with form and favour on their side before playing 15th-placed Leeds. Alex Scott (£5.0m) scored 12 points last weekend following the Cherries’ win against league leaders Arsenal, making him an affordable midfield option. Junior Kroupi (£4.6m) is another affordable option, this time upfront, while in defence, popular pick Marcos Senesi (£5.2m) is expected to perform.

Brighton take on relegation-threatened Tottenham before they host Chelsea on Tuesday. While the Chelsea game might not be straightforward, the Seagulls are likely to find the back of the net, and come off a win against Spurs.

Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.6m) is doing well in defence, for both club and FPL managers, while Mats Wieffer (£4.9m) in midfield and Danny Welbeck (£6.3m) up front make strong choices for Double Gameweek 33. Bert Verbruggen (£4.5m) is solid in goal, and even better to have should you utilise your Bench Boost chip.

Chelsea are consistently inconsistent, especially under Liam Rosenior, so pick from them at your own risk – this is coming from a Chelsea fan. Cole Palmer (£10.5m) has scored an equaliser and match-winner against Manchester United, and he has also scored four first-half goals in a single game against Brighton. Make of that what you will. I am scared to make any more Blues’ suggestions, but perhaps club top scorer Joao Pedro (£7.7m) (14 goals) might regain form this weekend.

Speaking of Chelsea, Man City beat them last weekend to close the gap to Arsenal to six points, with a game in hand. They now face Arsenal, who are getting called ‘bottle jobs’ again with three domestic losses in a row – including the Carabao Cup final that City beat them in. After Arsenal, it’s a trip to Turf Moor to play 19th-placed Burnley.

Erling Haaland (£14.5m) has only scored seven goals in all competitions (three Premier League goals) in 2026, but he is still the league’s top scorer with 22 goals. If anyone can score against Arsenal to help City win the title, it’s him. Despite being out of form as per his standards, he is still the most selected FPL player – Haaland, the people believe in you, prove them right.

Marc Guehi (£5.1m) was the Player of the Match against Chelsea, and rightfully so. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do the same against Arsenal and Burnley. 21-year-old Nico O’Reilly (£5.0m) is having a good season. Definitely a good pick. Rayan Cherki (£6.3m) is another Man City player who just keeps impressing, making him a no-brainer.

Other Fantasy Football Matchweek 32 must-haves include striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.6m), Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (£10.3m) and goalkeepers Karl Darlow (£3.9m) and Dean Henderson (£5.1m).
