Fiorentina and Viktoria Plzeň square off once more in the UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinals, a week after the sides drew 0-0 in Czechia.
La Viola are at this stage of the competition for the second year running, having reached the final last May. They are looking to reach back-to-back continental finals for the second time in their history, having reached the first two finals of the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners Cup (1960/61 and 1961/62).
Their domestic form has left something to be desired, having gone winless in their last five. Across all competitions, they have just one win in seven, that coming in the Coppa Italia against Atalanta.
For Plzeň, this is their maiden European quarterfinal, with the Czech club being the only team left in the Conference League not to have lost in Europe this term (qualifying included). This is their best European run ever, as they look to become the first Czech club to reach a continental semifinal since Slavia Praha in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup.
The calendar year has been kind to Plzeň, who has only lost once in 2024. While they do have a few injuries in the team, motivation will be quite high to go one step further in the Conference League. Fiorentina will be the overwhelming favourite for this return match, especially since they are unbeaten at home in the UECL this season. Several key players were rested on Monday, with virtually a fully fit squad at Vincenzo Italiano’s disposal.
