Manchester City vs Real Madrid Match Preview
Following a 3-3 draw in Spain last week, Manchester City welcomes Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. In what is the fourth time in the last five seasons in which these two sides will face off, it is yet another vital game in what is becoming something of a rivalry.
Man City just took the lead in the Premier League this past weekend after a 5-1 drubbing of Luton Town, coupled by defeats from Liverpool and Arsenal. Having done the treble last year, the Cityzens are still on track to do it again.
Pep Guardiola’s side has reached at least the semifinal of the Champions League in each of the last three seasons. They are also on a 22-game unbeaten run in the competition, with Real being the last team to beat them. In fact, last week’s draw brought an end to City’s 10-game winning streak.
Record champions Real Madrid has looked rather comfortable throughout the Champions League thus far, going unbeaten to this point. The record winners have also reached the semifinals in the three most recent campaigns, and will look to end the team who eliminated them nearly a year ago.
Real has won all four of their away games in the Champions League this season, with their last away defeat in the competition coming at the Etihad. They are currently leading LaLiga ahead of El Clásico next weekend. A win in Manchester will give them confidence going into the match against their greatest rivals.
