Chelsea Women have secured the future of one of the world’s best goalkeepers after Hannah Hampton signed a new two-year contract, extending her stay at the club until the summer of 2028.
The England international’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, making her renewal one of Chelsea’s biggest priorities. After weeks of speculation over her future, the Blues confirmed on Tuesday, July 28 that Hampton has committed herself to the club for another two years.
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2023 and has developed into both the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and England’s No.1.
Speaking after signing her new deal, Hannah Hampton admitted extending her stay was an easy decision.
“I’m really happy,” she said.
“Chelsea have always been my dream club to play for in England so to be able to extend for another two years is a proud moment.
“When I moved to London from the Midlands, it was my first time moving away from home and everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home and somewhere I have been able to grow not only as a player but as a person.
“I don’t want that journey to stop and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person. I am happy and I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more as a team we can achieve.
“I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past.”
The new contract provides stability for Chelsea as the club continues to reshape its squad following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign where they fell short of winning their seventh consecutive league title.
Hannah Hampton’s Rapid Rise at Stamford Bridge
Hannah Hampton has enjoyed an outstanding spell since arriving in west London.
After initially competing for the starting role, she established herself as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and played a key role in one of the club’s greatest domestic seasons.
Chelsea completed an unbeaten domestic treble that year, with Hampton winning the Women’s Super League Golden Glove after keeping the most clean sheets in the division.
She successfully defended the award during the 2025/26 season, further cementing her place among the elite goalkeepers in women’s football.
Her performances have also been recognised on the international stage.
Sarina Wiegman had seemingly been assessing the Chelsea star from late 2023 through 2024, before choosing her as England’s No.1 ahead of the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship over Mary Earps, who in turn retired from international football.
Playing a key role in the tournament, Hannah Hampton helped England retain the Euros title and was named the recipient of the 2025 Yashin Trophy, awarded to the world’s best goalkeeper.

From Spain to Chelsea Star
Born in Birmingham, Hannah Hampton spent part of her childhood in Spain after moving there with her family at the age of five. She began playing football as an outfield player at Villarreal before returning to England shortly before her 11th birthday.
She switched to goalkeeper a year later while at Stoke City and later joined Birmingham City, where she emerged as one of England’s brightest young talents. A move to Aston Villa followed in 2021, while she also made her senior England debut that year with a clean sheet against Spain.
After joining Chelsea in 2023, Hampton became part of the England squad that reached the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final before helping the Lionesses win Euro 2025 as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
With five trophies already won in a Chelsea shirt and still only 25 years old, Hannah Hampton believes there is much more to come.
The England international is a player no club can afford to lose, and her new contract ensures Chelsea will continue to rely on one of the game’s finest goalkeepers as they look to challenge for domestic and European honours over the coming seasons.
