Liverpool are determined to strongly defend their Premier League title after winning the 2024/25 championship, as they continue making a statement of intent in the summer transfer window.
Arne Slot’s side have already strengthened themselves with the major signings of players like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez in the window and now seem to be on their way to making another blockbuster signing, as they have now seemingly struck a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
How Much Are Liverpool Ready To Spend On Hugo Ekitike Signing From Eintracht Frankfurt?
It’s now being reported by Fabrizio Romano that Liverpool have now struck an agreement with the Bundesliga side for the signing of Hugo Ekitike before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
It’s claimed that the two clubs have agreed upon a transfer fee that is well over £78 million and can potentially rise up to £82.3 million with the necessary add-ons.
The Reds have also agreed on a six-year contract with the French forward that will be valid until the end of June 2031. The 24-year-old reportedly only wanted to move to Liverpool after seeing their interest soar, despite garnering interest from Arsenal as well in the summer window.
Liverpool continues to spend big money on transfers in the 2025 summer window, having already broken a British transfer record for the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and also spending pretty prominent fees for the acquisitions of Frimpong and Kerkez.

Why Are Liverpool Spending Big?
Ekitike has seemingly earned a huge profit for Eintracht Frankfurt by making Liverpool pay such a huge figure to sign him in the summer. The reason for the Reds’ desperation to get him is that they were won over by how impressively the Frenchman performed for the German club last season.
The 23-year-old striker scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 games across all competitions for his side, which included 23 goal contributions (15 goals, eight assists) in 33 Bundesliga games as well.
However, it’s not only Ekitike’s goal contributions that have made him such a fiercely contested striker among the Premier League teams.
It’s because the 23-year-old also ranked as one of the most effective attacking players with key metrics in the 2024/25 season.
Ekitike was among only five players, which also includes Mohamed Salah, to have 200+ touches in the opposition box, 100+ shots and having completed 50+ take-ons in Europe’s top-5 leagues in the previous campaign.
That only proves how lethal he can be in testing goalkeepers as well as driving the ball forward as well as finding the ball in key areas of the pitch.
The French striker averaged 3.74 shot attempts, 3.50 shot-creating options, 3.04 progressive carries and 6.73 touches in the attacking penalty area in the Bundesliga last season.
In comparison, Arne Slot’s striker Darwin Nunez averaged 2.76 shots attempts, 2.36 shot-creating options and 1.97 progressive carries per 90 in the Premier League last season.
Luis Diaz, meanwhile, averaged 2.52 shots, 6.18 touches in the penalty area and 3.98 progressive carries per 90 minutes in the 2024/25 Premier League.
Ekitike scored more league goals than both Diaz and Nunez, with only Salah outscoring him in this aspect.
That is why Liverpool were so impressed by the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, and as long as Ekitike can maintain his ruthlessness from the 2024/25 season, he should be a hit story at Liverpool and prove himself as well worth the money paid by the Reds.
